Right now FTP client is very, very, very sluggish. I would love to see it improved.

Sorry if I'm a bit picky :)

But "sluggish" is very relative and can be referred to a lot of things with FTP.
If you really want Mathias to fix the thing you have an issue with I think you need to specify what you mean by sluggish and exactly what with FTP you want to have improved. Or he might fix something with FTP but not the thing you want to have fixed.

Ok, my bad. Here we go:

- after successful upload FTP tab is reloading causing whole program to freeze
- the same goes for disconnecting from ftp server - program freezes for a few seconds
- sometimes uploading files is very slow. Uploading 100 of *.jpg using external FTP client (like FileZilla) takes a few seconds, using Multi Commander it takes a few minutes (one 100 kB file is uploading for more than 30 seconds). I did not found out what is the possible cause here (for sure it is not upload speed). It not happens always, but quite frequently.

Abandoned WinXP user here. And it won't change any time soon.

Very strange. I'm not able to recreate any of those issues.

But FTP is messy since all FTP Server works different and almost none of them are following the standard correct.
Might be that the FTP server is doing something that makes MC freak out.
What kind of FTP server is it connection do ? Do you connecting using FTP-SSL/TLS ? or normal FTP ?
