Show focussed file/folder in inactive panel
« on: June 14, 2016, 21:08:35 »
Hi all,

New to Multi Commander and new to this form. I love the recent updates of Multi Commander and love the functionality, all I'm looking for is available.
Only thing that is not present at all times compared to my previous file manager is as follows...

We have the following Selection methods settings:
A) Unselect other files and folder when single selecting
B) Select and Unselect when navigating over files and folders

When A and B are active, I'm unable to select multiple files/folders with the space bar, but I'm able to see the focused item in the inactive panel.
When A is active and B is inactive, I'm unable to select multiple files/folders with the space bar, and I'm also unable to see the focused item in the inactive panel.
When both are inactive, I'm able to select multiple files/folders with the space bar, but I'm NOT able to see the focused item in the inactive panel.

Can we have a combination (not sure if these are the right settings for this one), where I am able to select with the space bar but also able to see the currently focussed item in the inactive panel?

Sorry. You can have the cake and eat it.
The settings you want are in conflict of each other.
Specially when running in Windows Explorer styled Setup

If you want better control over this you should run Commander Styled Setup.

No problem with running in Commander Styled setup, but in there I'm unable to get the focused item in the inactive panel visible, am I missing something?

Hi AlanJB,

No, not really I guess...

Your left panel is the active panel, right?
I see the selected files in both panels, correct, and I see the active / focused file in the right panel.
But which file actually has focus on the right panel?

It's great that I can see the selected items in both panes, very useful, however in most of my cases I need to compare one file / folder with the file / folder in the opposite panel.
So when I focus one file in one panel and move to the other panel, I cannot see the focused file in the active pane anymore....

So the question is more for the focused item in the inactive panel, not the selected file(s)

Hi Dusty.

My bad; I should read more carefully.  You did say focus and not selected...

The only workaround I can find (admittedly a compromise) in Commander-style setup is to check "Select and Unselect when navigating over files and folders" under Explorer Settings -> Display.
