The web site indicates that tabs can be used, but I can't find any description in the documentation.

I found the answer on my own. You create a tab by selecting File->New Explorer Panel. Other tab functions are under File->Tabs.

And you can duplicate a tab with Ctrl+T
Duplicate tab will create a new tab showing the same path as the one you press CTRL+T on.
If you right click on a tab you will get a popup menu with the tab commands.
