mouse file select / activate
« on: February 14, 2012, 17:28:57 »
I would like to reproduce the explorer style file selection and activation with:

 -       one-click file activation
 -       ctrl + left-click file selection/ deselection

Can this be done? I did only manage to get the one or the other.

Thanks
Norbert

Menu Configuration -> Quick Look'n'Feel setup -> Windows Explorer Compatibility look'n'feel.

Thanks.

Have you tried it?
The behaviour is different: either one-click selection/activation or ctrl-click selection, not both as in explorer.

The Windows Compatibility mode is not 100% identical to how it is in Windows Explorer. but it is close. :)

To active single click action. (Single click to run files, to enter folder) go to
Menu > Configuration > Explorer Panel Settings
and under mouse configuration

Set "Open folder" or "Open folder / Execute file" to the Click action.

Yes, i've tried. I've made 2 videos (see attachment). Identical behaviour. Maybe i misunderstand you. What do you mean saying "both as in explorer"?

Do you mean option "Open with single click, select with pointer" (do not really know how it is written in english)?

Thanks Mathias and Jungle for your explanations and your videos, Jungle!

I have done as you suggested, but please let me try to explain what the missing part is:

I can do the one-click opening/activation alright, as in explorer.
But if I then try to select files by pressing the ctrl-key and left-clicking files, they should get selected (or unselected), but the one click opening does not allow that, instead opens the file or folder. I can then go back to the original folder and see the files/folders selected, but that is not as expected.

Hope I could make myself understood.
Thanks for your efforts.

Norbert

Have "Single Click" open/enter active and Windows Explorer compatibility settings on, might not be a good combination. I there you will always get a some wired conflict there,  since you can not select file correct without starting it or entering a folder.. maybe move the file selection to the right mouse button. and shell context menu to right button double click..?

Your suggestion with the right click works nicely and is certainly an alternative. Thanks!

It might be still a good idea to emulate the behaviour of the explorer more closely, if you should  find time to implement this. It would be of help for all people who have to switch between ms explorer and multi commander.
Just a suggestion. Multi Commander seems like a great program anyway.

I have been using this setting since more than a month now and my experience is:
Yes, the workaround as suggested can be used.
Still, it would be much nicer to have the real thing, i.e. MS explorer - one click functionality like the original (LMB one click activation, RMB one click context menu).
Any chance for an improvement in a later version?
Many thanks.

Just to be clear.

You want to be able to have

LMB - Open file / Open Folder
RMB - Context Menu
LMB + Ctrl - File Selection

Will check if that can be added without interfere with other setups.

Mathias,
yes, exactly.
Just tried again, this is how the MS explorer one-click mode works.
Many thanks for checking this!  :)    :D

Thank you for implementing this already!

I noticed there is still a related problem with 'shift-click' selection of a series of files.
Currently the files are not only only selected but activated too by LMB 'shift-click'
in one-click mode.

It would be very handy if LMB 'shift-click' would allow the marking of a series of files without activating them.

Thanks again!
Norbert

Ctrl+Click has a few slight issue(s):
At the beginning of each test, use Buttons [Select All] & [Toggle Selections]

#1: Cursor is on FileA (No other files Selected)
----| Ctrl+Click on FileB
Result ------> FileB is selected.
Expected --> FileA & FileB are selected.

#2: Cursor is on FileA
----| Ctrl+Click on FileA
Result #1--> Inline-Rename activated.
Result #2--> File is selected/deselected (after you move the mouse)
Result #3--> Nothing Happens.
Expected --> FileA selection toggles (without moving the mouse)

#3: Selection of Files via Left-Click Box-Drag
----| Behaviour appears to be consistent with #2.
Normal Select/Deselect with quirks if the cursor is on the file that you Ctrl+Click.

#4: Selection of Files via RButton Click, or RButton Drag
----| Behaviour here is the most inconsistent.

Ctrl|Shift + Click & LButton Box-Drag seems to be a different type of selection than RButton.

It appears to take at least two Ctrl+Click's to deselect a file that was selected via RButton.

When running Windows Explorer Styled mouse/key setup. It will try to emulate how it works there. But it will never match 100% . The Commander Styled mouse/key setup has priority and if fixing something in WE Style would break something in Commander Style. then it will not be changed.
It might be possible to tweak the mouse configuration in settings to make it work better.

But I will check the issue you listed and see if they can be fixed.

#1: Cursor is on FileA (No other files Selected)
----| Ctrl+Click on FileB
Result ------> FileB is selected.
Expected --> FileA & FileB are selected.
Im not able to make this happen. I turned on Window Style mouse/key in Quick Look'n'Feel Setup. No other customization.
Maybe you have tweaked some other settings that makes it break ?

#2: Cursor is on FileA
----| Ctrl+Click on FileA
Result #1--> Inline-Rename activated.
Result #2--> File is selected/deselected (after you move the mouse)
Result #3--> Nothing Happens.
Expected --> FileA selection toggles (without moving the mouse)
That is because the rename action is configured to click and wait.
Maybe can be tweaked a bit to not fire command if ctrl is pressed. However. for some actions you might want that.

#3: Selection of Files via Left-Click Box-Drag
----| Behaviour appears to be consistent with #2.
Normal Select/Deselect with quirks if the cursor is on the file that you Ctrl+Click.
Same issue. Action fire on click and wait.

Im not able to recreate that. Might be because of some conflicting settings.
