Does multi-update (1.9.1) not work on server systems?
« on: February 11, 2025, 15:09:56 »
Hello,

I have multicommander  15.0.3072 installed on some windows11 workstations and on some server systems.
After configuring the firewall the multi-updates on Win11 work correctly, but on the servers NO (W2022).
On the firewall, requests to the site cannot be seen passing through.
Access to hxxp://multicommander.com/updates/version.xml via the browser works correctly.

Below is the error,

Updating Multi Commander Located in : ‘C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\MultiCommander (X64)’
=============================================================
You are running on a 64 bit platform.
==================================================
Make sure you do not already have Multi Commander running.
==================================================
Press start to begin update process.

Checking if newer version exists.
Downloading : hxxp://multicommander.com/updates/version.xml
Failed to download Version information (Operation : 12, Error code 87)
Error : Call ‘Open HTTP Connection’. , Failed with error code : 87

any idea

Thanks in advance
BJ

Make sure you allow the MultiUpdate.exe app go pass the firewall and not just Multicommander.exe

It works on the Windows server I have access to. But it is not super locked down.

However on server there are so many other policies then just firewall that can block app from reaching the network.
It is very complex. I don't know what can cause the issue for you.

Hello,

I may have found.

There was a registry key no longer used but still present.
Removing the Multi-Update key worked.

Thank anyway

that is not a key for MultiUpdate. it is a key for WinHTTP  that is a service in windows for doing Http connection.. But MultiUpdate and MC is using that.

I know Winhttp key and its configuration, the strange thing is that MultiCommander told me that a new release was available, while multiupdate could not even open the session to the web

When Windows Server is involved . nothing surprises me. The network security in Windows Server is complex and advanced.
