Cannot show Hotpath interface
« on: January 01, 2013, 13:06:21 »
Since I have upgraded to the latest version of MC (v2.8.1 b1275), I cannot access the Hotpath view / add / delete interface anymore. The mouse shortcuts (Right click / Ctrl + Right click) are configured, but they do not work. There is still a "Hotpath" button on the Button Bar, but it doesn't do anything either. When I use the Button Editor to see what is configured behind that button, it turns out that it is an Internal Command in the Multicommander (base) module, but the command itself is missing, as if it disappeared.
The previously configured hotpaths still do work with the usual keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl + number), however...

Hotpaths are gone. They was a lot of issue with them..

QuickPaths is the new HotPaths. Works almost the same. But the QuickPath are configured in the Favorites windows.
The first section in the favorites window you have 10 QuickPaths (Like the HotPaths)
Existings HotPath should have automatically been converted to that.
Press the <Star> Icon or Alt+Backspace. To show the Favorites Window and select a Quick Path to go to, Or Press Ctrl+<num> (just as Hotpath) to go to a quick path directly.

There still is some configuration referring HotPath. That is a mistakes. I forgot to remove them

There is still a "Hotpath" button on the Button Bar,
There is? I don't see it..

Thank you very much for the quick and comprehensive answer!

I like QuickPaths already (especially that they work quite similar to the HotPaths I have accustomed to), but there seems to be a difference (or I just missed something). For HotPaths there was a configuration item to increase their number from 10 to a desired higher amount. I used 20. If I understand right, now there is only 10, and I can create more sections of favorites if I want.

One little feature request: could you perhaps reset the quick filter field when one closes the Favorites window? I think it would be more convenient to use if it would always start empty...

Perhaps those could be exchanged with the Favorites / QuickPaths, given how similar they are...

Sorry, my mistake. I must have created it in the past, and just forgot all about it when I started using keyboard and mouse shortcuts instead...

Yes there are only ten.. for hotpath you could have more then 10. But the Ctrl+<num> shortcut keys only worked for the first 10.
And since you now can add unlimited numbers of favorites there, There is no reason to have QuickPath that can not be mapped to any Shortcut keys.
since you have to show the window anyway to select it.

One little feature request: could you perhaps reset the quick filter field when one closes the Favorites window? I think it would be more convenient to use if it would always start empty...
I can see that both situations might be wanted. So maybe I add an option for it. Plus a way to easy clear it with a quick key press. So if you want it to be kept you can clear it fast.

Thank you for the reply, and even more for the program itself! MC is a truly unique software, and the quality of the implementation is amazing. I am really grateful for being able to use it, and for your decision making it freeware!

Hello, I totally agree on this file navigator being absolutely great.

Changing the so-called "Hot Paths" to a "favorites" system sound like a good idea.

The bookmarking functions were solved satisfactorily in most web browsers long ago,
and jumping around in the file tree shoudn't be any different.

But I'm afraid I'm a little clumsy and can't find this new "favorites" interface anywhere.
How can I access it?

And since the "Hot Paths" were removed leaving the right click at the top of the panel
available and currently doing nothing, why not have the right click open that elusive
"favorites" window that I can't seem to find.

New Favourites window can be shown by pressing Alt+Backspace or by clicking Star button on the Commandline bar

Ah, OK, thanks for that. I didn't notice the star icon.

I would have expected to be able to open it from a menu as well though.

As I understand it it is a general principle that everything that you can do
from a button or an icon should also be available somewhere  in the menus.

And the right-click access is nifty, I'd prefer to have that back as well.
I'll post a request in the suggestions forum.

There will be more features and options coming in the next release to the favorites window.
Some of the feature things that got missing from hotpath and that are not in the Favorites Window. will be added to the Fav Window.
