Support and Feedback / Re: Column layout in split panes
« on: October 18, 2020, 15:23:51 »
I believe that this issue has now been resolved.

What had been happening showed that the column spacing in one or the other pane, (not both at the same time), was changing more or less at random on different days and some days not at all.

I made further checks and found that theConfiguration > Explorer Panel Settings had, for reasons unknown, changed my long term setting for Autosize columns in Sorting and Columns had changed from unchecked to checked.

Once I reversed this and reset to unchecked the issue seems to have disappeared as my preferred settings are now retained.

My initial confusion was due to the randomness of the changes.  I would have expected any "Autosize" option to affect both panes at the same time, especially as the panes were set at the same width, approximately 500 px.

All seems fine now so I'll class the issue as Resolved

Support and Feedback / Column layout in split panes
« on: October 13, 2020, 15:57:36 »

I have my MC page displayed with a split size on a horizontal 50/50 layout as that serves my needs very well.

Why is it that the columns spacing in one or the other of the panes on my display regularly resets itself to some layout that I have never specified.  The behaviour seems to occur in either the left or right hand panes at random, which seems odd.

This does not happen every time that I open MC but, over a few days this spontaneous rearrangement recurs, much to my annoyance.

I have a preferred layout saved and named so that I can reinstate that as needed but this constant resetting is becoming rather annoying.

Is there any way to set and keep a preferred layout?

@Alanrf   >>> Configuration > File Coloring Rules Editor.

not OK  :   this is only for color files names !
The is the way to change file names if and when you want to do that.

Support and Feedback / http or https protocol

Just a quick observation, Mathias

Have you thought of eventually changing the web protocol from http to https for better security.  I know that you will be aware that browsers are, increasingly, objecting to sites that they feel, in their opinion, are less than secure.

Not a major issue but perhaps worth considering in the future.

Seems to be working now.

Got a notification about Swish and MultiCommander

but not the most recent two  about Re: Crash upon opening Multicommander  Mind you that is an older thread, dating back to May so that may have missed the Notify reset for some reason.

Thanks for your offer.  Never know when one might need help!

Yes, I did get notification of your reply.

The next test is if I get notified of a new topic.

I wonder if resetting the "Notify" option resolved the issue.

Email?  Outlook 2016, as part of Office 365.

Didn't get notification of a reply posted yesterday at 15:36, some 4 hours after my response above.  I've now tried disabling Notifications in this forum and then re-enabling them.

Now waiting to what happens for any further posts in the Forum.

Notification of your reply came through OK.  I had already checked spam filters and so on, but nothing was there.

I'll keep an eye open for the next few posts. It is most helpful being identified of queries and replies as it helps me keep up-to-date with the development of this first class file manager.

Not a major issue but as a subscriber to the Support Forum I usually get email notifications of any new topic or post.

None received since 10 June.   My email details appear to be correct on the database.

Support and Feedback / Re: Color coding one specifc folder
« on: June 08, 2016, 20:46:25 »
You got file coloring under the color wheel on the toolbar
You can modify the default or create own color profiles
There you can define a rule that will match only that path item and then you can set textcolor, backgroundcolor, font style (but not fontname and size)

I am aware of that but my question was specifically folder tree

Is it possible to change the color of a folder name?

For example, if I have a folder named "My Special Folder" could I change the font, or background color, of the name of that single folder in the folder tree without affecting any other folders?

Is it possible to show, for example, a folder tree like this -

...
Folder 1
Folder 2
My Special folder
Folder 3
Folder 4
...

Whoops!

Obviously need to get way from the computer.   Clicked OK as noted in my last past, but just realised, (oh foolish me!), that I had not clicked Save when exiting the Explorer configuration panel.

Apologies for wasting your time, (and mine too, I suppose)  :-(

Yes, I am aware of that, but nothing happens.

If I click on, say, Path Field / Active panel / Normal text and background color I get a Choose Text colors panel telling me that i have to use Windows default settings, (where in Win 10 though?).

If I click the dropdown to change Windows Standard Colors to Custom Colors I appear to have an infinite choice.  I can select a color from that display and click on that.  The display shows the change in the Sample text panel but then, when I click OK, nothing appears to happen, even after restarting MC

Support and Feedback / Path field - how to change colors, v 6.2
« on: June 04, 2016, 14:29:50 »
Using "Explorer Panel Setting" it seems possible to make changes to the text and background colors using the "Custom  Colors" option.

However, any changes made do not seem to have any effect and the path field remains the default neutral grey color with black text.

On Win 10 there are no easy ways to change color settings as was the case in earlier versions.

Is it actually possible to make the path field more visible by changing colors as explained above.  If not, is there any work-arounds?

Is it possible to hide those marked with a [J] or ['S']

You can't do much with them if you click on them so why show them?

Unless, of course, it is quite possible that I am missing some elementary point which at present escapes me.

Support and Feedback / Show/Hide does not seem to work correctly.
« on: April 27, 2016, 12:08:35 »
If I set the options to hide both "hidden  files and folders" and "system files and folders", I would expect that any file names/folder names with the prefix [J]or ['S'] to be hidden.  This does not seem to happen.  Why?

These  switches do not appear to have any effect.

I'm sure I saw that they were working quite recently, or did I imagine it?  Has something changed?

Support and Feedback / Changing time format
« on: April 02, 2016, 16:04:06 »
How can I change the file time format from the 24 hour to the 12 hour clock.  In MC v5 9 have the 12 hour time but on the update MC v6.0 the time is displayed as 24 hour.

Am I missing some very simple switch somewhere?  The computer shows the 12 hour clock everywhere, for example, in Windows explorer but not in MC

EDIT

My fault.  Setting up  a new computer and forgot to change the "Long time" format.  Sorry to waste your time.

Support and Feedback / Re: AVG blocks installation: IDP Adware
« on: March 28, 2016, 13:56:10 »
Thanks Mathias.  I realised that of course.  I can understand your frustration.

If I had not already downloaded, (from the official site!), and used this excellent program on other computers I may have been more concerned and may even have moved to alternative programs.  Hopefully, you don't lose too many first time users due this "false positive" issue.

As I use MC on a regular daily basis I have to say that it is one of the best, and easiest, file manager that I have ever used!

Had the same problem.  New computer, installed AVG then tried MC.  Immediately blocked, so at least AVG does something!

Disabled AVG, downloaded MC and everything seems OK.  Hope so, because atm I'm running on 4 boxes; without MC life would be rather tedious if all I could use is the rather, (very!), limited Windows Explorer.

Support and Feedback / Re: Single Click?
« on: January 28, 2016, 17:43:28 »
There are options to configure the mouse controls if you open  Configuration / Explorer Panel Settings and visit the Mouse Configurations tab.

Does that offer you what you are looking for?

23
Yes, I think that makes sense.

Basically then, consider that I wanted to modify buttons in the top row and then eventually show the top row only as my default configuration.

To preserve all subsequent rows for the possibility that I may want to reinstate them at some time, the best strategy would be to first display all rows, then modify the top row as required, close the Button Editor, and then use the Core Settings panel to change the display.

This would change the configuration and preserve the setting for all four rows. Any subsequent change of the button display to show just the one row would retain details of all buttons behind the scenes.

So, I agree with you - not a bug, perhaps more a case of the end user being aware of the consequences.

At least I have found out how the blank rows were caused, and, as a result of your earlier post, been made aware of how easy it is to create, and recreate the default display.

Many thanks for your patience.

24
Further to my earlier report of an issue with "blank" buttons, I have found a way to reproduce the issue consistently.

- Open MC as normal with four rows visible on the Button Bar.

- Reconfigure to show only one row.

- Use the Button Editor to change the background of one or more buttons.

- Reconfigure with 4 rows.

Result, the bottom three rows are blank.

However, if you open MC with four rows of buttons and change the background of one or more buttons in the top row and then reconfigure to show just the one row there is no problem.

Not sure whether this is a "bug" or a "feature" but it may help to understand how "blank" buttons can be generated.

Thank you for the information.

I was unaware of the distinction between program and user versions of the config files.  I was also unaware that they were capable of recreating the user version at the restart.

A very useful tip; it worked and resolved the issue for me.
