Just because something is open source does not mean many developers will join.. Most open project does hardly get any external contributors.
Look at DC as you mention.. 90-95% of all commit is from 1 person. 
And then you need to verify everything that people want to contribute. And you loose control and people can fork it and release there own version of it and then there are multiple version out there. and user can trust what version is the offical.
Bad people can easily create a version containing malware, and it will hurt the reputation of the official version.
And the project then would also only be able to use other open source project, limiting in what 3rd party software you can use.  Would require some parts of MC to be rewritten.
Also MC codebase is huge, very few developer would want to spend the time to understand the architecture.

However.... some "parts" from MC is planned to be open.. So I think parts and extensions can be open..

correct , MC do not decode all file format there are. It is too big of a scope. It looks for the file content flat.

not sure I understand what you mean... but if you right click on the filter button next to the filter field. you got two options if it should remember filter and if it should reset it

Sorry for the misinterpretation of what you needed. 
I've created a dump from 2967.
Still getting 502 when I try to upload   so have sent you a link via contact form.

It hangs when trying to stop monitor folders for changes.
MC normally ask windows to tell MC if folder X is changed. When closing MC, MC tells windows to stop doing that for MC and it hangs and Windows do not gives as response.
I reply on your mail with what folder it is.. Maybe it is somethings special with that folder on your system

No what I meant was that the debug symbols I got did not match.. I think the dump was from a beta version where that did not have saved debug symbols correctly. Had some build issue on my build server.
But if you create a new dump from build 2967, then I should have dbg symbols that are matching.

With correct symbols it will resolve all of the " MultiCommander+0x4d81c7  "to the correct code functions, and I can see where it hangs..

I still get 'bad gateway' using the upload link here.

No.. it does not find any matching debug symbols.  What version is that ?. might be that symbols for that version is removed.

MC 13.3 b2964 x64 on W11 x64
Just an FYI...
This build has pretty much solved the RMB context menu issues I had.  I did have a few strange instances where it worked fully then stopped, then worked partially but it is currently 100% since I enabled legacy icons for the context menu.

Hang on exit still an issue, I guess maybe 4 of 5 exits leave the window hanging & unresponsive.  It can still always be killed by TM>end task though.

I'm not able to recreate any hang on exit.. So I have no idea what can cause it to happen for you.. I must be something that is unique for your setup. against most others..
Problem is to figure out what that can be

Found the crash report

The Crash is in XCShMain.x64.dll , (  PDF-XChange ) and the crash is because of a "NULL_POINTER_READ", So it is definitely a Bug in their code.

Make sure you have latest version, Searching online I find many user have issues with their pdf preview handler.

Not able to reproduce that..  But that is also not the windows default pdf viewer.  Have you some 3rd party pdf viewer installed that installed its own preview handler ?

Was the crash report sent ? Did you note what crashId was shown ?

You might have turn it on, in the toolbar it is the two icons after the colorwheel.  Or pressed the hotkey for it  Alt+Q / Alt+Shift+Q

Nothing like that is there at the moment..
I been thinking about adding it. But the problem is that all file copy is done in background to not lock up UI..  so if this should work there needs to be many rules when it should not do it and when to do it.
Since if you copy many files you do not want to change focus all the time a new files is added and since UI is not locked.. You can be browsing around at the same time in the folder and then you do not want to to change focus item for you..

So it is something that looks simple to have.. but is not.

Hi,

There is an issue in favourite windows (since months, I've already informed you in the past by mail), there is not text visible on focused item. It doesn't matter which colour you set.

Yes it go to white text color, so having white background make it fails.
Hmm not sure the colors in that window should even be customizable.. it should maybe just use the colors of the explorer panel. feels strange that you can customize that..

You can change if the favorites should be shown with name or path..
Right click on favorites window and select options or right click on empty space in the "current path" field in a Explorer Panel

You can type commands in the command line field like "cd <path>"  or other things..
And then with Alias in Menu > Configuration > manage Alias

You can define a text that you write in the command line field. and what that should be translated into..
So for example you can create an alias "sys32" that do "cd c:\Windows\System32"

But you can "pin" server in the network (NET:) and they will always be shown there, It will cache it.. and you can often just access directly without scanning again

Alright, this has nothing to do with the beta version, but I don't understand why the fritz-nas icon under the network icon is not working and instead a new icon has been created at the bottom. Please watch my screenshot. This has nothing to do with reachability. How does pinning work with NET:? i have no idea.

NET: is a virtual device that just shows and manage network connection.. When you browse to a network location \\Server,  a new entry in the device root is created and that device is accessible from there.
This is because normally you browse devices from the device dropdown and not the tree

You want to send selected file to the printer..  MC do not support printing file..  send list of files to clipboard and paste into notepad. and then print from that.

I've got a dump via TM whilst it was in a hung state (TM doesn't show a not responding flag, just 0% CPU use).
The /upload URL says 404 dead so I'll send you a link.   

BTW At first glance BREAKPOINT_80000003 caught my eye...

It always say that been doing a dump from a hang.

Unfortunately nothing gets written.  Nothing in Event Viewer either.
On both W10 & 11 on the 22H.xx builds I'm seeing MC hang most of the time when closed.
It is still visible on the desktop & via TM can be forced closed.
Only RMB on taskbar works nothing else reacts to keys or mouse. The RMB/taskbar dialog doesn't answer clicks.
It always successfully saves state even tho it doesn't complete the close / exe termination properly.

Maybe I can run a trace on the exe when I close it? Any recommendations?

Hang not a crash, Okey. That big difference. then it is probably waiting for Windows to return after a OS call.
You can create a dump and upload it and then I might be able to see what it is waiting for

Panel tab width ? You meen the size of the Tab for the panels ?
In core setting using Layout > Panel Tab, you can set TabWidth and you can also have a fixed width

You can changed the button panel font by editing the MultButtons.xml file..

SRY, as for the buttons font, MC goes back to default font after restart.
and as for the tabs on the tab panel I see that if I change the fonts than the height of the tab is also changing in height. Where can I change the height of the tabs as a default.

No, if you edit the file MultiButtons.xml file, it should not go away after a restart of MC.

Height on tab headers is based on font.

Ok so it happens when MC is creating the file. Hard to say why. Might be that the drop data is not unicode and something goes wrong in the conversion..
If you drop on desktop / explorer it is created correct ? (to rule out that the program that create the dropdata is doing something wrong.)
