Support and Feedback / Specific meaning of "source" and "target"?
« Last post by ajax on Yesterday at 23:13:42 »
I'm a bit of a newbie with respect to MC.  Very much want to use dual panel capability to run scripts on folders/files located in one part of the file system that affect other parts of the file system.  In that, make selections in one pane (? source) and operate on selections in the other pane (? target).  With some difficulty I have been successful writing some such scripts but have now discovered that making source and target selections is something I have yet to figure how to do.

Have spent a good bit of time in the Online Documentation which I'd generally say is very impressive but have yet to find anything describing the notion of dual panels and how they relate to each other.  I'm guessing that this has something to do with the commonly used but, as best I've been able to find, undefined meaning of the terms "source" and "target".

Would be grateful if someone could either refer me to what I haven't been able to find or possibly offer a precise definition of what these terms mean with respect to MC.
Support and Feedback / Re: "Delete to Recycle Bin" does not do so

Hello Mathias!

Good question, it made me identify deleted files don't go to the recycle bin when they have been deleted from my SSD drive, and the files go normaly in the recycle bin when deleted from my hard disk drive.

I found that each drive can be configured in the Recycle bin properties to have a certain amount of space for the recycle bin or to delete permanently the files instead of sending them to the recycle bin.

Thanks !! :)

Normaly that should not be an issue.. MC is not moving files to recylebin it self. MC tells Windows to do that.

Is the drive a normal local drive ? or is it network mounted or other it might not work, that option should not be availble unless you delete from multiple locations at once
Check file operation log (Ctrl+L to open log view ) and se what is say when you delete to recyle bin

When deleting files, even though "Delete to Recycle Bin" is checked in the "Delete Files" dialog window, deleted files don't go to the recycle bin (ex: if the recycle bin was empty, it stays empty).

Any ideas to enable deleting to recycle bin? Thanks!
Well the documentation there is not up to date.  Search UI have changed since that was written. (it is on my todo list , but writing that taks time.. )
But as you see there, you used to be able to search in the result.  But when the UI was redesigned that option was removed from there becuse it was confusing a lot of users.
But it is comming back.
Support and Feedback / Re: Refine Search Results or Detailed Search Function

To add on, from the online documentation

If you have previously searched for something you can specify that a new search should search the Results  of the first search.
This way you are doing a search on the previous search result. This is a useful way to filter files from searches that produce too many results.

There is no way to do that in my search results. I can only close/hide the original search window, cannot save search, cannot open a new search, can start search (which restarts the same search).
Support and Feedback / Refine Search Results or Detailed Search Function

I am searching archives of HDDs, and I need to specify specific search terms.
I can either search filenames for "books" then refine them with "cats", or i can specify to search for "books" that contains "cats".
But no matter what i do in the search window, it always search for "books" or "cat" so i have everything that contains books or cats, which many results turn up useless.

So how do I actually search with detailed specifications, or how do I refine a set of results?
using build 2452.
1. Sorry, To to be able to do that MC would need to now how to open and parse documents.  And there are to many different format to add support for.
2. No icons are always drawn first, It is in my list to support. But it require major redesign and there are other more important stuff first.  (Did not think anybody actually used that column :) hehe )
3. No currently, not like TeraCpy. There are plans for something like that.

I can't seem to find the option to add a column in the explorer plane that displays the number of pages like in windows explorer.
Also, is there a way to make the row number appear IN FRONT of the icon and not awkwardly very close to the right of it, right next to the filename?
Thirdly, when you copy files to a different location the process stops at that point when encountering errors or duplicate files only to resume after you've made a decision about the error. Is there an option to make MultiCommander skip or postpone the errors until the very end of the move or copy process in the same way TeraCopy does?

Thanks! Keep up the very nice work!
