Support and Feedback / Re: Reset File Type Setup
« on: November 30, 2020, 20:18:05 »
I restored a previous backup of configs and things are better now.
I will do more backups and study what I am changing before I do it.
Thanks for your help.
We are good for now!

Thanks for getting back with me.
MC is amazing!  You can get pretty deep real fast and mess things up!
That is on me ... Love MC.
OK, I deleted FIleTypes.xml.
My problem is when I click a file.
It seems random, but I can't be sure.
It seems to take me to various places.
If I am clicking a .pdf file, it takes me to C:\User\UserName.
Same with .jpg, docx, etc.
What I want is to be able to double click a text file and have it open in the editor of my choice.
Or a .jpg and open a graphics program.
Somewhere I got this all messed up and am just about to the reload the whole program.
Really don't want to as I have buttons, shortcuts, etc. all set up.
Some thoughts on where I should be checking and changing?
Thanks for listening.

Hello all.
Hope you are safe and sane wherever you are ...
I love MC.
However, before you know it, you can mess it up with settings!
It is best if a beginner just stay out of there!
It started with just wanting Notepad to open a text file.  A certain graphics program, Then something else ...
Now, nothing is working.  I starts up different apps, jumps around in the directory, etc.
My bad ...
What is the best way to fix this?
I know I can reload the program, but I have a lot of customizing done in the tools bars, button bars. etc, and would rather not do that.
If I have to install again, so be it.
I did a Reset in File Type Setup.  Didn't help.
Suggestions, questions for me, etc?
Thanks
Bob

OK, I did this again.
Still no go ...

I could not see or find Windows Update Cleanup in disk cleanup.
Thumbnails was ticked off.
Ran the disk clean up.
All is good.
Rebooted.
Checked for updates.
Windows is current in updates.
Rebooted.
I looked at update history.
There was one update that didn't take.
18946.1000.rs_xbox_dev.190723-1700 (UUP-CTv2)
Failed to install on ‎7/‎24/‎2019 - 0x80240034
I don't have Xbox, so not sure if this is important.

Thumbnails in MC still not working.
My biggest fear is that I am doing something incredibly stupid!
We can put this to rest.
I'll just live with it.
I have other ways to look at thumbnails.
Just like to use MC for everything.

I appreciate the help.
If you guys have a buy a coffee or beer button, let me know.
Thanks
Bob

Anti-Bacterial ...

OK, I ran sfc again.

I got this cmd message ...
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

So ....
I looked at the log.
There are 25180 lines in the log!
Huge!
I'm sure I can't attach that to this post.
Anything I can look for to copy and paste?
Any part that you might want to look at?
Please advise and thanks ...

OK here goes ...
I ran CCleaner and ran the Register cleanup.
Still no thumbnails showing.
I did all the things suggested by Anti-Bacterial.
Including Windows Central suggestions.
Not working.
I'm not sure how to check permissions.
As far as I can tell, I am running Administrator.
I can install programs and run updates, etc.

What do I do with this statement?
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_*.db

I tried all the internal thumbnail settings in Core Settings per Matthias.
Not working.
I appreciate all the help in this matter.
I'll probably just let it ride for a while.
Use Irfanview or something like that to work with photos.
Thanks ...

OK, I ran the first command.
I get many many pages of log.
None of it means anything t0 me.

I uninstalled MC completely.
Reinstalled a generic version (without my config file).
Thumbnails are still not showing up.
They show up in Windows Explorer.
Somewhere I thought I read the Windows might not be handling the thumbnails properly.
I think ....
Oh well, it will be OK.

Thanks for checking it out.
I am running the 64bit version of MC.
Life goes on.
I know it used to work.  Maybe I'll stumble across something down the road.
Thanks again ...

Hello ...
Anyone else having this problem?
It has been 2 months since I posted my initial posting.
I need to see the thumbnails.
I might have to try some other software and close this post.
Sure like using MC though.
Thanks for listening.

Sorry, I've been gone for a while.
This is what I get in the log ...

2019-06-19 19:15:44.810 Failed to get Windows Thumbnail by shell item (Error : 0x8000ffff)

Looks like one error message for each thumbnail in the folder.
Also, I have attached what is in core settings.
Thanks for checking into this ...

Support and Feedback / Another thumbnail post ... sorry ...
« on: May 14, 2019, 18:48:48 »
Hello ...
There are just too many posts on thumbnails and with a variety of resolutions.
I have not found anything to help me.
My OLD laptop with Win10 displays the thumbnails properly in MC.
I can scale and view.
My NEW laptop with a NEW version of Win10 does not display the thumbnails.
I have rebooted laptop and restarted MC.
I have tried the view menu (changing to detail and back to thumbnails).
I have read in several posts that MC gets the thumbnails from Win10.
So ...
Something strange with my Win10?
If you need more info to help, let me know what to supply.
I am using MC 64bit Edition.  I believe the latest version.
I really want to stay with MC for my work.
Thanks for listening ...

Support and Feedback / Drive Dropdown menu
« on: July 17, 2017, 02:55:13 »
I'm assuming the Drive Dropdown menu can be edited?
Maybe not?
If so, could someone please point me to where it is discussed in the documentation.
Or perhaps an old post that addresses this.

Thanks ...

Thanks, Mathias.

I apologize if this has been answered already.
If so, could someone point me to that post(s). :-[

If not, I am rebuilding my computer (Win 10) and would like to save all my settings for Multi Commander.
Core, Explorer Panel, etc.
There are a variety of settings that I set over time, and would like to retain them all if possible.
Is there a file(s) that can be saved or exported and then read in or imported to do set up MC like before?
This is a great program and that would be a great help!
And thanks for any help ...

OK, that makes sense.  And I'll try that approach.

Is there a list somewhere of all the internal commands that are available.
I want to create button (or hotkey) that will open the keyboard shortcut menu.
I use shortcut keys all the time.
Scrolling through the drop down boxes, it is easy to miss the command that I am looking for.
I can't seem to find that command.  It would help if they were in order.
I'm sure it is there!
Thanks. 8)

OK, I think I am getting it now.
Buttons and Keyboard shortcuts are two separate functions.
Excellent!  What a great program!

« on: October 21, 2016, 06:32:23 »
Hello all.
I am finally getting back to working with the buttons and the button editor.  Life got in the way and I got really busy!
Buttons are a really cool feature of MC!  Well, it is all cool!
I still don't understand how to or know where to look for on how to assign a  chosen button to a particular keystroke (F3, or keystroke combo, etc).
Like, I want to change my F-Keys to something that I want, and can't seem to make the connection.
I understand the setting up of the commands.
Just can't seem to get a handle of assigning the keystrokes.
Any thoughts, suggestions, help, etc.
If there are some posts or help pages on the matter, please point me to them.
Thanks ... 8)

I am trying to get a handle of the Button Editor.
I have looked at the samples and tried to make some new buttons.
I am making progress!
I would like some direction as to where I find documentation on the codes used in the Button Editor.
Such as ...#{b,13} (${Core.1350}),  and any other info on setting up buttons.
I think the Core.xxxx relates to a internal command.
Any help would be appreciated.
If there are some posts on the matter, please pass them on to me.

Thanks 8)

Just wanted to add to this post.
After learning Buttons in MC, I found that you can set a button to view Detail, Thumbnail, or any of the other options.
That was my original question, make a shortcut to toggle view/detail/thumbnail.
There are a ton of other things you can do with buttons.
Split screen or variations of it, and others.
Glad I took the time to understand buttons.
If you have not tried them, give a go!
What a program ...
