Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: Main Top Menu Font Change
« on: January 23, 2014, 07:56:15 »
It works on Windows 7 for me.
I also tested and old version (v2.5) and it worked it that too.

Maybe you changed any compatibility settings on the Multi Commander shortcut ?

27
Just copy the folder and press "Replace all Older" in the already exists dialog ?

Not sure. But my guess is that MC is trying to restore MC to its previous state (that is saved when it closed last time you run it) so the settings from the shortcut is overriden.

Support and Feedback / Re: FTP issues
« on: January 09, 2014, 09:10:23 »
As Mathias said.. FTP is a plugin, and the file system can not show an UI because the plugin it self does not know what is calling it. It can be a script and background thread and so on. So is not possible for the plugin to just show a UI.

I think the FileSystem Interface need some redesign to make that possible.

Just because another program also is a file manager does not mean they all work the same.
When two program are in conflict of each other it can be any two programs. Do not be same kind of program.

I had a similar mouse pointer issue with another program (not a filemanager) a while ago. And it turned out to be Norton Internet security that in someway created a conflict. When I turned it off, the mouse pointer did not start to flicker.

Try to close all other running program, and also close as many of the task bar (background) programs too.. And see if the mouse cursor still flickers.
The thing to figure out is what program is in conflict with MC. If that can be found and recreated then maybe some workaround can be implemented.

Very nice.
Now my portable version of MC can have the same look everywhere.

I just remember a UI option that I would like.

Option to add a little extra space between the rows. If you have small icons and font it can be a bit to tight, Option that would add 2-3 px extra spacing would be nice..
(This is not a normal user settings. so maybe place settings for this under some extra Advanced tweak category.)

11. Would be nice to customize tabs' position (top/bottom/left/right) and style if possible. As for me, it's very incomfortable to access bottom tabs line, because other controls are in the top.
Not left/right but you can change tab location from bottom to top under Core Settings.

12. And finally, add some dark colour preset, the colouring feature is very nice.
There is a dark color setup.  ( Quick Look and feel setup -> Customize > Colors (Dark colors) )
You can also configure you own and when you have a color setup that you think are great you can send it to Mathias. He is accepting color setups to be added as more quick setup options.

*Able to set customize tab colors for the explorer panel tabs.
    * Maybe auto set tab color based on path?  so if I go into c:\picture my tab turns green.
*New splash.. If you have the time. Low low priority (Just to make it look refresh.)
*Customize default background color (Menubar, toolbar, Buttonpanel, free tab area) Override the windows default "grey" background.. If possible.
* Flag files and folder with different colors flags that are shown before or after the filename.. (Like you can flag mail in outlook) and then some way to select all files that has green flag set. (Not sure if the flag information should be saved between runs, and if so how. Maybe in a (ADS) Alternative Data Steams in the file..Hm but then it will not be possible to flag files on write protected volumes.

Improve some of the icons like..
"Show Hidden files" (Sorry I got now idea on how a icons for that should look like. Just that the current icon feels wrong)
Calculate Folder size (Should be a icon with a folder not a file.)
*new* Filter icon that can show a list f view filters to apply
(Maybe if someone that can draw can provide some icons, that would be great)

Support and Feedback / Re: Error 4000
« on: September 17, 2013, 07:36:41 »
This problem sounds extremely weird.

That files created in a folder with a special name should be halted from being written sounds wrong. My guess is that something else is the problem.
Some vital information on how the problem is behaving must be missing. Because of what I read here, it does not make sense.

If I had the problem I would check if I could make it happen on many different location and drives or if it only was in one location.  Also If it happen if I created the folder manually (F7) and then copy different types of files into it from different places/drives, And if I could create the folder from MC and then write the file by saving text from notepad.exe. Check if some other program have any locks on that folder. (I would check using process explorer) and I would have run sysinternals process monitor to check what is happening. (But that is a bit of a advanced tool) And more.. changing one thing a the time. Because there must be some something special with this except the folder name. Or some other information that seams unimportant is missing.

But that is just me. :)

And maybe do not ask if it should save if something is changed. Assume that all changes are okey. Just auto save all changes.

Windows do this a lot in Win7 and even more in Win8. and a lot of other program have also started to do this since user never read confirmation dialogs anyway. And it is actually very nice. Unless the thing you do change can't be undone, like Deleting an entire rule. But for everything else I think you can just assume the user want to save.

Awesome.

The file coloring rules works great.
And the UI is very dynamic. I like it. and how the background colors in the rule list follows the colors defined in the explorer panel, nice easy to show how the final result will look like.
It must have been a pain to develop, I done a lot of UI development my self in C++ and it can drive you crazy. C++ is not an easiest language to create UI in.

Some questions..

The small button in the top/left corner that switches background.. That will not be there in the final? it is a test before deciding how to go ?.. I would vote for going with the white background, look more modern, at least on Win7/Win8.

The [...] button.. What are they for? (They are all disabled now) I guess they are not for file browsing?

Also if you get the time.. When you add so it is possible to have multiple sets of "Colors profiles". It would be good if it was possible to copy all or some rules from one profile and paste into another.  Maybe as a right click menu on the list with rules. ( Copy selected, Copy All , Paste )

Beta Releases / Re: Possible bug

Ulfhednar :
I Think you are mixing up things and that is confusing Mathias

The issue is not drag and drop..  and that z-order is changed during drag..
it has nothing to do with drag at all.

It has to do with that MC is set to focus when mouse button down is received.
(When a new program is set to focus Windows will by itself bring that program to the front )
Explorer and some other apps set the program/window as focus when the mouse button is released (ButtonUp)

TC and a lot of other programs also have this issue.

I am not talking about click-select; drag-drop.  That does change the Z order (& 'always' has in Explorer etc).  If this focus change event isn't clear I can try to video it & post the result.
I can only go on what I read here, Mathias seems to say MC behaves differently for him.  If he said that it was no different then my question is moot/irrelevant.
No I'm not talking about click..  a click is mouse button down and then up..I only talk about button down there.
(That is also what you start with when you are about to do a drag and drop.. )

The reason I think Mathias do not see any problems with drag and drop is because he is looking at the wrong place.
Because the issue is not a drag and drop issue.
Why I think so if because MC switches to the front on button down. BEFORE the drag action have even started.
(If you just press mouse button down on an file and do not move the mouse. A drag and drop action is not started. It is not started until the mouse moves while button is down, and you then get a image around the cursor showing what is dragged)

Or maybe we are talking about different problems. But I can't see any problem with z-order after the drag have started.

Quote
I don't use TC - tried it (several versions) & didn't like it.
I think if TC behaves in this way then the question of focus grabbing stands. i.e. there is something that allows or forces a certain range of stacking behaviours in relation to the type of cursor interaction.
It was just an example..  Did not mean for you to go use it. What I was referring to was that the button down and focus change is normal and standard behavior of windows. If you take ANY other application then WE like Notepad, IE, you see that when pressing mouse down it when the window is half hidden by another window that will bring the window you are pressing down on to the front. only program that does not do that in Windows Explorer. That tells me that the standard way windows works is to bring it to the front and Windows Explorer is going out of its way to not behave as a standard window. So if we want that behavior in MC then MC also must also handle that it self. IF Windows now allows 3de party apps to opt out of it

Yes I been think about something like that. But the hard part is how to do the advanced stuff simple.
Rules can have many sub rules like Filename contains "*.exe" And FileSize more than 1MB
Not sure if OR have to be included. One can just create a new rules for that.

So doing UI can be tricky. what option and features around it have, how it should work and look. Im going to start with the UI soon and it will be there in a alpha version shortly.

Great...

Here are some ides of feature for the RuleBased Coloring UI and more.
 *  Rule to be enabled/disabled with a checkbox or something.
 *  Some kind of preview of the colors for the rule
 *  Import / Export so user can move / share rules
 *  Groups. So if group1 is selected then rule1,2,3,4 as set, group2 will set rule 2,5,6,7 or what the user now defines.
 *  Rule groups to be activated by script. So that user can defines hotkeys for different color groups.

42
2. GUI settings for rule-coloring.

Yes this is something that must be added. However creating a UI for this is not trivial, It is not easy to do a UI for this simple. It can easily become very complex.
I been playing around with different idea. But guess I have to settle on one of them.

Yes GUI for something like that is not easy.

How about making it work like many E-Mail filters things works.

When you create email filter you first select what field you want to match and then how to match it and then you enter a value at match against,

So here it would be three comboboxes.

  [ File Field ]   [ Match Operation ]  [ Value ]

And if "filename" is selected in file field then "Match Operation" will be populated with the valid match options for name like.
Is, Contains, Begins With, Ends With. and so on ?

SDK / Get all items and select some of them
« on: July 21, 2013, 13:33:36 »
I been playing around a bit with the SDK.

In one of the sample plugins you have an example on how to get all selected items.

But if I want to get all items and then set some of them as selected. How do I do that ?

It is possible to integrate MC into Windows Explorer so when drives or folders are browsed they are opened in MC..

To do that you need to hack the registry.

(  Edit the PATH below or inside the attached .reg files to match the path to where you have MultiCommander.exe )

MC Windows Explorer integration - INSTALL
Code: [Select]
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell]
@="MultiCommander"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\MultiCommander]
@="Open in MultiCommander"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\MultiCommander\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\MultiCommander\\MultiCommander.exe\" /OPEN %1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
@="MultiCommander"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\MultiCommander]
@="Open in MultiCommander"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\MultiCommander\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\MultiCommander\\MultiCommander.exe\" /OPEN %1"

MC Windows Explorer integration - UNINSTALL
Code: [Select]
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell]
@="none"

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\MultiCommander]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
@="none"

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\MultiCommander]

It will not work perfectly. There are some minor issues. But they might be fixed.
And you also most configure MC to only allow a single instance. else you get new MultiCommander.exe processes for everything. (Maybe you want that..)

Great program!
Please implement: New files are highlighted in color.

I think you can do it already with the Rulebased file coloring. Set a rule to show files with a create time that are less then X minutes old to show as color Y.

But the rule based file coloring will be easier to use when a UI for it is added.

46
3. In paste from clipboard dialog when i change file type, focus is moved to the filename field. It is inconvenient when navigating via keyboard because i need to switch to filetype combo again.
Yes this can be a bit annoying..
But there is a workaround for it until it is fixed.. (if he fixes it.)
Use F4 instead of using arrow up/down to select paste format. When the focus is in the dropdown field you can press F4 and the dropdown list is then shown. You can then go up/down and press enter on the one you want without focus being lost.

47
2. If i create folder la-la;bla-bla, two folders are created. But i want single folder with ; char as a part of the name. So i suggest creating multiple folders when name is CSV-string. E.g. "folder1","folder2".

; is used as a separator when entering multiple folders and is fast way. Having do "xx","sss" is to much typing.
But how about an sticky option in the dialog that say something like
"Use ; as separator for multiple folders" so if you uncheck this you will be able to use ; in the name. (And it will remember the settings for next time.. )
(Or maybe a dropdown where you can select what separator character you want to use ? )

Forget this question..  I found the hotkey

Ctrl+G will filter out and only show selected
Shift+Ctrl+G will revert back and show everything again.

Edit shortcut to MultiCommander and add parameters like
Multicommander.exe -L="C:\PathToShowOnLeft" -R="PathToShowOnRight"

or use a file with many paths and settings

Multicommander.exe -F="Setup.ini"

Support and Feedback / Show only selected files/folders
« on: July 13, 2013, 13:51:45 »
There is/was a hotkey.. I don't find it now, that will filter out all the none selected files.

I got a folder with 4000+ folders and I selected some of them using different filters. so now I got 417 folders selected. I want to view only the selected folders before I delete them.  (So that I can check that I have not selected folders that I don't want to delete.)

There was a hotkey for this.. But I can find it now..
