Support and Feedback / Column layout in split panes
« on: October 13, 2020, 15:57:36 »

I have my MC page displayed with a split size on a horizontal 50/50 layout as that serves my needs very well.

Why is it that the columns spacing in one or the other of the panes on my display regularly resets itself to some layout that I have never specified.  The behaviour seems to occur in either the left or right hand panes at random, which seems odd.

This does not happen every time that I open MC but, over a few days this spontaneous rearrangement recurs, much to my annoyance.

I have a preferred layout saved and named so that I can reinstate that as needed but this constant resetting is becoming rather annoying.

Is there any way to set and keep a preferred layout?

Support and Feedback / http or https protocol
« on: March 14, 2019, 17:30:35 »
Just a quick observation, Mathias

Have you thought of eventually changing the web protocol from http to https for better security.  I know that you will be aware that browsers are, increasingly, objecting to sites that they feel, in their opinion, are less than secure.

Not a major issue but perhaps worth considering in the future.

Not a major issue but as a subscriber to the Support Forum I usually get email notifications of any new topic or post.

None received since 10 June.   My email details appear to be correct on the database.

Support and Feedback / Color coding one specifc folder
« on: June 08, 2016, 17:47:08 »
Is it possible to change the color of a folder name?

For example, if I have a folder named "My Special Folder" could I change the font, or background color, of the name of that single folder in the folder tree without affecting any other folders?

Is it possible to show, for example, a folder tree like this -

...
Folder 1
Folder 2
My Special folder
Folder 3
Folder 4
...

Support and Feedback / Path field - how to change colors, v 6.2
« on: June 04, 2016, 14:29:50 »
Using "Explorer Panel Setting" it seems possible to make changes to the text and background colors using the "Custom  Colors" option.

However, any changes made do not seem to have any effect and the path field remains the default neutral grey color with black text.

On Win 10 there are no easy ways to change color settings as was the case in earlier versions.

Is it actually possible to make the path field more visible by changing colors as explained above.  If not, is there any work-arounds?

Support and Feedback / Show/Hide does not seem to work correctly.
« on: April 27, 2016, 12:08:35 »
If I set the options to hide both "hidden  files and folders" and "system files and folders", I would expect that any file names/folder names with the prefix [J]or ['S'] to be hidden.  This does not seem to happen.  Why?

These  switches do not appear to have any effect.

I'm sure I saw that they were working quite recently, or did I imagine it?  Has something changed?

Support and Feedback / Changing time format
« on: April 02, 2016, 16:04:06 »
How can I change the file time format from the 24 hour to the 12 hour clock.  In MC v5 9 have the 12 hour time but on the update MC v6.0 the time is displayed as 24 hour.

Am I missing some very simple switch somewhere?  The computer shows the 12 hour clock everywhere, for example, in Windows explorer but not in MC

EDIT

My fault.  Setting up  a new computer and forgot to change the "Long time" format.  Sorry to waste your time.

Further to my earlier report of an issue with "blank" buttons, I have found a way to reproduce the issue consistently.

- Open MC as normal with four rows visible on the Button Bar.

- Reconfigure to show only one row.

- Use the Button Editor to change the background of one or more buttons.

- Reconfigure with 4 rows.

Result, the bottom three rows are blank.

However, if you open MC with four rows of buttons and change the background of one or more buttons in the top row and then reconfigure to show just the one row there is no problem.

Not sure whether this is a "bug" or a "feature" but it may help to understand how "blank" buttons can be generated.

Support and Feedback / Button bar options disappeared
« on: January 17, 2016, 18:03:57 »
I have been using the button bar showing just the top row.

However, just tried changing it back to show 4 rows.

The display is amended after the mandatory MC restart but the content of the lower 3 rows just shows blank buttons with no text visible.

How can I fix that?

Support and Feedback / Using Quick Keys.
« on: January 12, 2016, 17:56:59 »
I'm using the Explorer style of MC.

I guess I must be doing something wrong, or have forgotten some elementary rule, (if so, I apologise in advance), but I am trying, for example, to use a short-cut to make a quick copy.

In this case, the option on the File menu shows

Copy (Quick)

which I understand to mean that the letter "Q" can be used as the quick key.  However, this does not seem to work.

I have tried it in combination with other keys, (Ctrl, Alt, Shift) with no effect.

Can it be done?

Is it possible, in the future, to consider improving the Search feature so that users can search the contents of *.docx files?

Support and Feedback / Using the MC Picture Viewer and thumbnails
« on: December 23, 2015, 17:45:13 »
Having checked as far as I can I still cannot see how you can get thumbnail views showing the actual jpg picture.

Checking the graphic on the Main Application Layout page, for example, the right hand pane shows exactly what I am trying to achieve.

There is a range of similar graphics in the Screen Shot Gallery, (http://multicommander.com/screenshots), admittedly showing an older build of MC.  Has something changed in the current release?

I suspect that I am missing, or misunderstanding something that is very obvious - in that case, my apologies!

Support and Feedback / Lost display in File View window
« on: December 22, 2015, 17:43:49 »
An odd occurrence.

Checking out some configuration ideas, I opened Explorer Panel Settings and, in the Save on Exit section unchecked the Remember open paths option.

The odd effect is that, in the right hand pane both the folder tree and file view window were behaving as expected but, in the left hand pane, whilst the folder tree was fully functional, the file view window was blank.  The only way I could repopulate it and return the the original settings, that is, with the Remember open paths option checked, was to restart the computer.

No real harm done, other than the inconvenience but this seems odd behaviour.  Even more irritating was the fact that there seemed to be no obvious way to repopulate the pane; using soft or hard refreshes had no effect.

Minor bug, or operator error?

Support and Feedback / Understanding Aliases
« on: December 19, 2015, 14:14:22 »
This question arose after reading the response to the thread Folder access

When I checked Configuration / Manage Aliases I got the following pre-set options;

c, d, e -    giving direct links to the root of the respective drives, if they exist.

n -           allowing the use of Notepad to open a specified file

cu, lm -    giving direct access to two useful hive locations.

The remaining two options appear to link to some unidentifiable folder/ file

g -           "@3146babb..."
p -           "0dafc203..."

Unlike the preceding entries, they do not give any clue as to their usage.

I know I could easily enter the alias in the MC command line but, being of a cautious nature, I really do like to know where I may be going; where do the "g" and "p" aliases lead?

If I try them am I going to do some unexpected, and unwanted, to my computer?

At intervals the tip

Hint:Type :one or :sky to go to your Skydrive/Onedrive folder
appears.

Is it possible to add an equivalent short-cut to reach the Google Drive folder?

In your road map you noted

Undo     Able to undo a delete/copy/move/rename operation

Have you got any plans to introduce this useful feature?

Support and Feedback / Some documentation anomalies
« on: December 10, 2015, 17:39:53 »
I was checking through the Documentation pages and in particular, the published keyboard shortcuts for the Explorer version when I found that the keys to refresh, or force refresh, a screen were defined as F2 and Shift F2.

This is clearly incorrect as on the Explorer version the F5 key has that function.  Indeed, on the Explorer version the F2 key is used to rename file/folders.

Investigating further it seems that, in the published documentation, the shortcuts for both the Commander and Explorer versions are identical.

Without actually going through each shortcut, is this actually true?  Certainly given that there is one anomaly, as noted above, it seems possible, if not probable that there are more anomalies.

Clearly not a major issue, more a matter of incorrect documentation.

I am quite happy to investigate further but perhaps you are already aware of this particular issue and have already taken steps to correct it.

Support and Feedback / Button Panel - odd behaviour
« on: December 09, 2015, 15:03:01 »
Noticed an inconsistent behaviour when using the Core Settings option on a Win 10 computer.

I was trying to reduce the number of rows from 4 to 1, basically a simple choice.  After selecting 1 from the drop down list and clicking Save the warning message appeared telling me that the change invoked needed a restart of MC.

Not a problem, simply close down and restart MC.  Result - no change.

The Button Panel still showed four rows.  On the assumption that I may have made a foolish mistake I opened Core Settings and checked.  The change from 4 to 1 had been correctly recorded, so I clicked on Save, closed and then reopened MC.

Result - success.

After observing this odd behaviour, I tried the same operation on another Win 10 computer.  Exactly the same results.  A need to effectively save the change twice before it took effect.

Several further checks seem to confirm that this issue only occurs at the time of the first change to the Button Panel configuration.

All very odd, although the end result is fine. Certainly not  major issue, but potentially confusing when first encountered.

Support and Feedback / Can you add an Editor icon to the toolbar?
« on: December 07, 2015, 16:22:13 »
I am (reasonably) happy with Notepad as the default editor but there are many occasions when I use either Notepad 2 or the excellent Notepad ++.

Is it possible to create an entry in the File Type Setup / Editors section to do that.

I have added Notepad ++ and set the relevant icon.  I have also configured it to deal with .htm .html .css .js files at present.

All of that seems to work; if I highlight a file and then click either F9 or use the Edit (F9) button in the button bar.

However, no icon seems to appear anywhere other than next to the specified file types in the pane.

Ideally, I would like to see the icon somewhere,, such as the Quick Launch bar, so that I could simply drag a file over to that if it was convenient.  The suggested method of dragging or dropping the program to insert the icon on the Quick Launch bar does not work - at least for me!

Incidentally, in trying various strategies I managed at one time to add a Notepad icon somewhere on one of the toolbars, (a the end of the Command line?) but that no longer appears. Resolved.  It seems the checkbox in core configuration has been cleared.

Sorry for asking what may be yet another trivial question but I am trying to come to grips with, and thoroughly explore, this excellent software package.

EDIT
Just checked on another computer and the icons for Notepad, Calc and Command Window do appear at the end of the Command bar.  How can they be reinstated?

Support and Feedback / Quick Launch Bar icon
« on: December 06, 2015, 15:22:14 »
Just a small, almost trivial point.

When installing Multi Commander on a Win 10 box the MC icon does not appear on the Quick Launch Bar.

At installation all three options are checked; the Desktop icon and the Start Menu entry are fine.

Same issue occurred on two separate boxes.

All options worked fine on a Vista box.

Support and Feedback / No context menu - version 5.8.1
« on: December 04, 2015, 15:56:54 »
I have just installed the current version of this software, using the Windows Explorer look'n'feel.

Initially, I was impressed.  However, trying varying basic functions I find that I cannot display a context menu by a right-mouse click.

Every time I try MC hangs with a "Not responding" message in the title bar.  Tried changing the style to Commander look'n'feel which, it appears, could not be invoked.

Completely uninstalled and then tried a fresh install.

Still doesn't work.

Is there a simple, (perhaps obvious), solution to this fundamental problem?

Otherwise, it seems that I will have to uninstall and look for other file management alternatives.
