Does MC have this feature? Can I find duplicate photos in two folders provided they have different names?

that is not a common case..
It works, at least in v8.3.2469. Open search (via menu/hotkey/...), press [Advanced] button, go to [Date/Size/Attributes] tab, check Hidden attribute and start search.
Can you explain more what you do
The problem is that you can not assign Ctrl+H or that the command does not work ?
Maybe it can't access the network path ? does it work if you change path to a local path?
I can say I have 0 indexing speed problems with the multiple SSD & SSHD drives on this machine when using MC.
Using different external hubs dramatically changes performance for me when connecting v 1.1 or v2.x to v3 ports.
I have not seen any issues like that in normal operations.
And in some tests I did now I see the opposite. that it is updated faster in MC then in Explorer.
MC is depended on windows to notify MC about when the file system is changed. And if windows is very busy and there is a lot of this file system changes it will not send the notification as often.
Workaround is to change type to something else and then back. (fast then editing text field)
Looks like it is packed with a extended zip algorithm, that not many zip tools support
