I observe this bug for long ago. When I create shortcut the extension is filled wrong (not LNK but source file extension) and shortcut is not created.
Step 1. First screen where we select shortcut type, and it is filled wrong out-of-the-box.

Step 2. Bummer!

If we re-select LNK type again (through selecting another type) the extension is populated correctly.

Support and Feedback / Re: ZIP unpack bug
« on: February 03, 2018, 15:36:26 »
Looks like it is packed with a extended zip algorithm, that not many zip tools support

So maybe it's worth to switch to 7Zip library? It's have LGPL license and can be freely used.

Support and Feedback / ZIP unpack bug
« on: February 03, 2018, 14:00:47 »
MC cannot properly unpack some ZIP file (example attached). The archive structure is recreated properly, but the contents are lost.
On the screenshot you can see unpacked folder in left panel and original folder contents viewable by click in the right.
I also encounter the error when unpacking via built-in Windows unzipper, and they say Windows doesn't recognize some ZIP algorithms properly. If you use built-in Windows ZIP-engine (which is a bad decision of course), you should at least throw an error to user that archive was not properly extracted, but not silently unpack the empty folder.
7zip unpacks this file properly, so it's better to use its engine.

Support and Feedback / Extremely sloooow refresh
« on: February 03, 2018, 13:49:42 »
I encounter this bug quite often in many different occasions. When I copy/delete/pack/unpack something it is seen in Explorer quite good, but MC doesn't see it for a long time. Typically Refresh button helps but not in all cases. You should do something with responsiveness to events in filesystem.
Example: I overwritten the big iso file (which was 3.5Gb and became 3.9Gb). It was recognized in Explorer immediately but in MC - never. On the screenshot the same file is opened simultaneously in Explorer and in MC.
I waited for a long time but without success, maybe after 10 minutes file list was refreshed, I didn't check up.
It is considering that fact that copy/overwrite operation was done via MC, not via Explorer. It is quite shame to observe such slowpokeness.
I can give dozens of such examples, I observe this quite often.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / File compare by content
« on: August 08, 2017, 23:46:20 »
Hi,
five years ago you said you gonna implement file compare by checksum. IS this featue still on the way? How can I compare two folders to find identical files disregard of their names?

It is only that file or other large files too ?
For many. And not only for very large, but for those written by some app to filesystem intensively.

What display settings for the size/unit/dec are you using..

Short.

This bug I experience very often. Size synchronization after some file is written to FS is toooo slow!
Only restart helps in some cases.

New occurrence. Just when I was heading to logs it happened  :)

Beta Releases / Re: MultiCommander v7.1

:D Anyway, cool. Strange but it never proposed me to add file to copy queue. Maybe this functionality was hidden deep.

It is this version where copy queue was released? I didn't notice at before. Cool stuff!

Just checked log writing and this happened again, exactly at the moment I dug into the log folder. In the C:\Users\Suncatcher
Here is the filesystem log.
This time restart helped, refresh did not. Maybe I was mistaken about restart, will monitor further.

Restart? no Refresh...
Yes, exactly restart. I think restart is more hard option than resfresh dirs.

you got lots of tabs opened showing same location ?

Didn't pay attention on that. Will monitor the conditions next time it happens. And will take the log.

is  a lot of files added/removed from outside of mc.
I wouldn't say so, just routine work. My work is not connected with file-management or processing big data amounts.

something else that cause lots of rescans of the filesystem`?

Maybe. I don't run any highly-specialized software, like 3D-rendering packages or torrent clients on this drive.
This is a system drive and some software may extensively utilize storage implicitly, of which I am not aware.

Fast / slow drive ?, XP ?

Definitely not XP  :D It is SSD and Win10 x64 pro.

A force refresh should fix it since it is a timing issues, it is just a visualization issue.. But I have never been able to recreate it

When it happened, even MC restart doesn't help. It just goes away after a while.

Support and Feedback / Re: Network drives are not showed in MC

Somehow mapped drives are again not showed. However, this time they definitely have letters and they are not redirected RDP drives.
Linked connections are enabled and MC is in Admin mode.

BTW, can we add network destinations (shares inside network machines) onto drive toolbar or onto the main toolbar?
Maybe some type of bookmarks?
It is quite cumbersome to go to Network Neighborhood and to dig deep through directory structures just to copy file.

TS devices are supported, they are shown under NET: since windows expose then as virtual network shares

Ok, they are. So the question is closed.

No that are not mapped drive..   Mapped drives are network path that are connected to drive letters.  like Z: X: and so on.

RDP connected devices are something completely different
Drives connected via RDP are located under the virual server path \\TSCLIENT   you find them under the network (Net:) or by going to \\TSCLIENT

Okay, I don't wanna to argue about the terms: mapped, network or redirected drives, doesn't matter. Let's treat this as a feature request. Could you add the support for Terminal Services drives?

If I map this drive manually
Code: [Select]
net use Z: \\tsclient\Cit works wonderfully and become visible in MC. Okay, I can schedule this command at start but maybe it can be done in a more native way?

and from the admin command prompt you can do  "dir Z:\"  if it now is Z..

Yes, when I do dir I can see the contents.
However, as you can notice they are RDP auto-shares, and don't have letter assigned. Maybe that is the problem?
This is definitely a bug, 'cause all shares must be showed, disregard of presence/absence of letter.

You can also open a admin command prompt and run "net use" and see if they are listed

Yes, they are listed.
