Support and Feedback / Re: Config compatibility
« on: March 21, 2022, 12:32:35 »
Thanks,
I can manually update all needed settings since I edited the configs manually the last time.
I will just transfer the needed content from the old cfg to the new one.
I'm mostly interested to keep the file colors settings (which are many types) and the general UI settings.

Support and Feedback / Re: Gigabyte or Terabyte

Hello, this needs deeper investigation. There may be something wrong with the USB adapter you use, but mostly this can happen for drives above 3TB.
What brand of controller do you use and what is the true size of the partition (like 1.81 TrueTB or something).
And what happens when you copy to it ?

Support and Feedback / Config compatibility
« on: February 10, 2022, 08:51:22 »
First of all thank you for the continued support and improvements on MC.

I am still using older versions so I'd like to know if config compatibility has been kept to newer versions.

The oldest I have is 6.2. Can I copy my config files to the latest one ? Are they compatible ?
Mostly I customized the file colors and number of rows in the main UI.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: Dark Mode
« on: April 16, 2019, 11:08:13 »
I managed to get it pretty dark by using the custom color configuration. Basically, black columns background and colored file types. Unfortunately the rest of the UI can't be customized, but it does fine like that too.

Support and Feedback / How to copy from http
« on: April 16, 2019, 11:05:43 »
Is copying from web-sites supported ?

I mean, if we just have a website like http://mysite.net/files/ which contains a lot of files that would take way too much time to manually click and save, it there a supported method to browse and copy them ?

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Copy/Move with full permissions
« on: March 01, 2017, 11:54:57 »
Is there currently a way to copy files/folders and keep all permissions ?
There's a closed topic about this, but it's an important feature.

Would an option to also keep share permissions be possible ?

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: Archives lha
« on: March 01, 2017, 11:47:20 »
There are many old archive types that may still be used today, but true, it's a lower priority matter.

8
Old DOS navigator could access all archive content at that time by simply pressing enter on the archive file. You could even copy the contents like you would from any directory.

There is no logic in having weird key combos for that, enter will suffice and be a better option.

Support and Feedback / Re: Java executables treated as archives
« on: March 02, 2015, 08:53:59 »
If you require, you can set the files to be treated as .exe files no matter the file manager you use.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jar]
@="exefile"
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"

This makes it executable from anything, including explorer.

I use this tactic to define a custom .exe extension to prevent virus contamination of my command center application.

Question though. Why are *.jar files added to that extension as archives by default? Surely in the majority of setups *.jar files should always be treated as executables?
.jars are archives in default windows environment. No reason to treat them otherwise. They should not be just exec'd 'as are' except if one really knows what he want to do.
Just like treating .doc files as .zip (which they are) would not be that useful either.

If it was another program than java.. yes..  But it is java..  horrible , scary, crappy, dangerous java..
Don't ever use java..  Your life will be so much better.. :)

(Sorry I just really dislike java... )

Anyway. The whole system how extensions and virtual file system are connect are going to be change. So maybe when that is redone it might change.. maybe
Totally agreed, but sometimes java is a necessary evil, at least until more larger OEMs move away from it.
For example, I have to use this obsolete trash of jre 6 for CISCO DM, since it will not work otherwise and tehres no new version of it.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: Icon
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:44:52 »
Hello, how about change icon? In win8 with medium size of icons its looks little blurry.
How about something like that?

Definitely looks good.
+1 for it being the new official MC icon.

As an old user of turbo navigator, I used to use the Space tab to select individual files and folders to get the size before copy them to the other panel.

This function will be a great improvement except if it already exists amongs all the already fonctionnal functions.
Regarding that,
Current/focused file size should always be displayed on the lower bar somewhere.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Fix request: colors in search mode
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:41:24 »
If I start a file search, found files are not displayed with colors, but with default.
This makes further filtering difficult.
MC should be updated to apply color filters to search results also.
Thank you.

Support and Feedback / Re: Bugs - Delete Recylebin folder
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:38:02 »
It is recreated, but after a while  (its not that).
Of course deleting itself to itself will not work, the option was not enabled.
It seems to work correctly now; I will do further testing on the initial system.

*F02-7 Bug: Some file/folders not actually deleting (no error).
Example: i try to delete $RECYCLEE.BIN. It does not actually delete, but I get no error either. It deletes fine from my old WN though.

Support and Feedback / Is the site down ?
« on: February 20, 2015, 09:50:16 »
I currently cannot access the main MC site.
I have ICMP response, but nothing will open.
Is the site down or is it something on my side of the pipeline wrong ?

A new feature that may be truly useful to have is mounting a shadow copy volumes. Since hardlinks already are supported, mounting shadow volumes would be a good next step.

I was looking for an option to automatically refresh colors upon folder change (if too hard to implement for attribute change).

Its a server from Samsung which has very strict security policies.

I have finally managed to set the file colors as I need directly from the XMls.
They look like this:

Basically, colors are set for file types and they are a little darker if files are hidden.

One new issue I encounter now: when changing attributes from hidden to not hidden or vice-versa, the file colors do not update, even if I change folder and even with rescan option active. The only way to update this is by restarting MC. So file color attributes should be reloaded after files change. Renaming does reload FC properties, so they do change color if renamed, but that does not apply for changing attributes.

It crashes at folder listing command.

2015-02-13 08:16:25 < 200 Command OPTS okay.
2015-02-13 08:16:25 > TYPE A
2015-02-13 08:16:25 < 200 Command TYPE okay.
2015-02-13 08:16:25 > MODE S
2015-02-13 08:16:25 < 200 Command MODE okay.
2015-02-13 08:16:25 > STRU F
2015-02-13 08:16:25 < 200 Command STRU okay.
2015-02-13 08:16:25 > CWD /
2015-02-13 08:16:25 < 250 Directory changed to /
2015-02-13 08:16:25 > PORT 106,113,122,117,87,34
2015-02-13 08:16:25 < 200 Command PORT okay.
2015-02-13 08:16:25 > LIST
2015-02-13 08:16:28 = Connection Lost.

The normal response in this case would be: "could not get directory listing."
So it crashes between LIST cmd and returned response.

Thanks. The grids were enabled, but not the main root option itself. They seem to be ok now.

MCIcons.dll -- then I'll try to make an icon set.
Does any XML point to the .dll or is the name hardcoded ?
(Can I point to like MCIcons2.dll or i'll have to use the original file itself ?)

I will do extensive tests on file types.
I intent for certain extension classes to point to certain external programs when viewed.

As for the quick search, I currently use a system that spawns a mini-search box when pressing Alt-X, but things seem to behave ok with the more direct approach MC has.

I kindof improvized.
Auto-resize was locked/grayed.
I have added an extension column, then I could resize the primary (name) one.
Cfg was manually saved on exit and now seems it remembered it.
Some delimitation lines would of been nice though.
This improvisation also fixed the next issue, I can sort by extension since the tag is now there.

Where can we find the command codes for KB configuration ?

Suggestion: All compare options in edit could be in a sub-menu (only 1 compare remaning in the main), they take a lot of space in Edit tab.

About the icons, I could try to design some at a point, but probably switching between icon sets should be supported, although is not something that important.
And they can be in a pack file, don't have to be separate.

I did switch to portable version and I will be doing more tests with this one.

How do you switch to internal picture viewer instead of external windows one ?

I found the search customization. One can switch between Alt-key and Ctrl-Alt-Key.
I will do for now.

FTP still crashes.
I have attached the debug info.

So, is there a way to prevent the directory shrinking thing while keeping the current settings ?

I will do further testing on the FTP.

The rename thing is a problem and its best to be avoided. Starting to rename protected folders with locked sub-content can even break the OS. That's one of the causes we use we use file managers after all, to evade windows bad things from happening.
About the fonts, yes, Normal style vs Bold Style. Folders in Bold get set to normal when focused. This causes a shrink effect.
