Script / [SOLVED] Start MC with folder and specific file HIGHLIGHTED
« Last post by PaulJayD on September 30, 2022, 15:20:17 »
Is there a way to start MC with a folder and specific file HIGHLIGHTED ??
I want my user to be able to quickly locate a previously-selected file within a directory.

[ SOLVED ] ==========================================================

I have a facility that presents a file (selected from Windows Explorer
via the context menu) in Multi Commander's Left panel directory listing,
with another "target directory" in the Right panel.

The problem was that once selected, I needed to keep the user's focus
on the file: It was not easily visible once the file's owning directory
was listed.
The solution I found is as follows:

Just prior to executing MC, my Windows batch file executes:

   set xShareFileId=%srcFile%

This sets the Environment variable with the file's drive:\path\name.

Then, the batch files executes MC with the additional operand:

   -AutoRun=xShareFileId

And, within MC, the "xShareFileId" script has been coded as follow:

   #
   # xShareFileid - Highlight specified file (from batch file)
   #
   # get fileid from environment
   @var $xShareFileId = TranslateEnvString("%xShareFileId%");

   # get drive, fullPath, filename
   @var $fileInfo[] = PathGetParts( $xShareFileId );
   @var $source = $fileInfo[1];
   @var $fileName = $fileInfo[2];

   # list directory, with file hilighted
   MC.Explorer.Goto LEFT={$source} ITEMFOCUS={$fileName}

Hope some of you find this useful.

Thank you for these explanations. Thanks to them, the chocolatey installation package has been approved.
Thank you for your development work for this application that I find great and that I use daily.
Thanks again for your availability and for the time you spend to answer all the questions on the forum.

Its a false positive, It is very common for application that do lots of file access like a file manager to get flaged.. some malware analyzer see that this application can do lots of different file access operation. And they become suspicious.
There is not much small developers can do about it

Support and Feedback / Virus detections for update zip package
« Last post by bibimagic on September 26, 2022, 17:10:14 »
Hello,

The "VirusTotal" antivirus scan detects a potential threat in the update file for x86 systems: "MultiCommander_win32_Update_(12.1.0.2906).zip".
Here is the result of the analysis: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/8e8b9f8ad14e0fefddd84679f02d758d30f8f6c2f4664566f3659200cbae4986/detection/f-8e8b9f8ad14e0fefddd84679f02d758d30f8f6c2f4664566f3659200cbae4986-1663880901

Have you ever seen anything special with this zip file?
Do you know what can cause this positive detection by antivirus software?

Miss three strings: Context menu for "Use Column Layout"

Btw "Save current layout as default" in WIndows 11 21H2 won't work for new tabs. Settings are only used for opened tabs, but not for new ones.

Script / MC.Explorer.Goto and ftp
« Last post by Jean on September 21, 2022, 15:06:13 »
Hi,
I now have this little user command
Code: [Select]
MC.SetActivePanel PANEL=TOGGLE
MC.Explorer.NewBrowser
MC.Explorer.Goto PATH=ftp:\jcremers.com

And it is set to Ctrl-0 so every time i need to update something on the server i can just use the keypress.

However on each successful connect it also adds another ftp icon on the top of the window, and after a while it sometimes won't even connect anymore.
Is there a way i can keep or re-use the first successful connection with the same script / keypress?

This is driving me crazy. The toolbar gets filled with ftp icons and when you click on them i just get an error beep because they are old and disconnected.
I disabled the error window because it's so small to click on the X to close it and it doesn't help the issue.
I'd like an easy reliable way to connect a panel to the ftp server with a keystroke. I'm must be missing something.

Support and Feedback / Re: Problem with the renaming tool
« Last post by Mathias (Author) on September 19, 2022, 08:41:18 »
Looks like this is an old issue with the exFAT filesystem and Windows.  Windows say the rename was successful, but if only upper/lower casing was change for new name, it will not be changed.

A workaround would be to use the MultiRename tool in MC and change the casing there and also add a "_" in the beginning or something.. and then after that, Rename them again and remove the _ character.
Then the name are changed and not just upper/lower casing.

Hi,

I'm running on Windows 10 Home and renaming files on an exFAT formatted usb drive. I haven't tried any other files on different drives so I can't answer your question. I think the issue is the same as what you said, not being able to rename by only changing from lower to upper case. I seem to have found workaround it by renaming, then immediately renaming again (_ to space) then back (space to _). It's a lot of extra steps considering I am trying to rename over 80k files but it is certainly easier than doing it all manually.

Thanks for your response.
