Hi.

I remember  that when I installed the app I saw in the Date field the word "Today" instead of numbers.
I made a change and now I see always numbers.
I searched how to change back and I didn't find it.
Can you advise?

Hi.

yes... file was read only....
I changed it.....

Hi.

I am trying to change a button and I get an error as in the attached "failed to save button layout.(2001)"
i tried to change also other buttons and got the same error.

hi.

solved... I changed the system local area

hi.

I work on a Win 11 English prefferd comp. The system is also supporting Hebrew encoding.
hwen I drag an Email from Outlook (hebrew subject) to the folder under MC I get a giberish file name (ðéñéåï -  TEST.msg). when I drag the same Email to the same folder but under the Explorer I get the Hebrew title as I see it in the Outlook (ניסיון -  TEST.msg).
Some thing on the way of converting/ copying from Outlook to MC makes a diff.
does the MC not supporting all Heb encoding? is it a matter which font I use as default for emails? Which I don't think is the reason.
I attche a photo of the MC version I use.

Hi Mathias.
Thanks for your answer, but I don't understand it.
and I quote you:
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MultiCommander\Config\MultiButtons.xml

No that is the User file, This files is loaded by MC if it exits.. If you edit buttons in MC, this file will be updated. This is the file I modify. And as I see it is under my username.Am I wrong?.

The file under the install folder is the "Default" file that is used if the file under the account profile does not exists. So if the file C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MultiCommander\Config\MultiButtons.xml does not exists. (As in a NEW fresh install) then it will copy the file from the install folder to the user profile and use that.I never went to the install folder. I updated only according to your instruction before.
When you update MC. the file in the Install folder can be update. so the default layout can be changed. but as soon as you have a file under your user profile. that will not be copied over. According to your last sentence, if I have a file under my user name ("C:Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MultiCommander\Config\MultiButtons.xml ") and I think this file is under my username than it should not be updated even when the MC has an update  going down. Am I right?

Ok...
so what can be the reason that the multibuttons goes back to default?

ok....

Hi.
I know this topic was discussed before but the changes are not kept.
I make the changes in the multibuttons.xml file (C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\MultiCommander\Config\multibuttons.xml) and for some reason it holds a few days and goes back to  default.
I even tried to avoid updates by skipping the update note.... nothing helped.
Do I do something wrong?
anyone?

Hi Mathias.

I did know how to search so I ask you.
when I press CTRL the button panel area is changing to blank cells.
Is there some option to define these cells as links to directories \ folders like the usual buttons panel?
thanks in advance.

Hilik

Hi.

To my understanding the file under my username is located here:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MultiCommander\Config\MultiButtons.xml
and as I understand your reply this file is not supposed to change.
if you look at the search res..
the 1st file of 15428 byts is the file I edit and saved. I edit the file with the note editor.
the file of 11192 byts is the file before I edit it. and it looks as this file rewrites every now and than.
you can see also the location of each.
what am I doing wrong?

Hi.

So the simplest way to avoid the change is to not update the MC, and once in 3-4 month to check for updates and then reconfigure again the MultiBottons file.

Hi.
Sry but I don\t understand you.
I am modifying only the 2nd row in the file. Nothing else is changed.
How does the manual editing becomes overwritten?
as it looks to me there is some kind of a reset in the app files that replaces the updated MultiButtons.xml file with the original one.
I update the one in this location: C:\Users\XXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\MultiCommander\Config\

Am I worng?

Hi.

I am changing only the 2nd row on the Multibuttons file...
this is what i change it to"
<buttonpanel id="1" rows="5" cols="8" fontsize="12" fontname="Comic Sans MS" iconsize="medium">

All the rest is untouched.

Hi.

pls enlighten me.
What is "manual edit"?

Hi.
I know how to change the font and size of the text on the buttons of the panel. In the MultiButtons.xml file.
I also was showed in which file to save it and the location.
However after some days the text changes back to the default.
You can see in the photos.
how can I keep it from changing?

Hi.
check if when I open a new folder there will be an option to type in ant description on the content of the folder. I think it will be very helpful.

Hi.
is there an option that I can add some text in one of the columns?
If it possible I want the usual columns and one that I can add text so the folder name will stay just a number.
I try to avoid this : "31001 - IEC" . I want to have a column for the folder name "31001" and a column for some text "XXXXXX" .
It will make the sorting easier.

Hi.

I see that there is an option to input some description in one of the columns (name of company for instance).
How can it be done? when I open a new folder I don't see any option to reach that field. (see photo)

Ok so it happens when MC is creating the file. Hard to say why. Might be that the drop data is not unicode and something goes wrong in the conversion..
If you drop on desktop / explorer it is created correct ? (to rule out that the program that create the dropdata is doing something wrong.)

Hi.
I dragged an email to my desktop and the subject wasn't changed. see attached.

Hi.
Any update on why this happens?

Panel tab width ? You meen the size of the Tab for the panels ?
In core setting using Layout > Panel Tab, you can set TabWidth and you can also have a fixed width

You can changed the button panel font by editing the MultButtons.xml file..
See https://forum.multicommander.com/forum/index.php/topic,1608.msg5850.html

10X, working

SRY, as for the buttons font, MC goes back to default font after restart.
and as for the tabs on the tab panel I see that if I change the fonts than the height of the tab is also changing in height. Where can I change the height of the tabs as a default.

Hi.

I looked for 2 options that will be very helpful to my opinion, but did not find any reference.
1. How can I keep the panel Tab width as a default? Each time I open the MC I need to widen the height so the buttons will be wider and more easier to press upon. see photo.
2. Is there an option to change the font size on the buttons?
