I've discovered issue is mitigated by changing my settings to 'Search Field'=checked, 'Search for text parts anywhere in the file/folder name'=checked.  Maybe this was my confusion which these settings.  But i'm happy I can select files by name now, not sure if this is a bug or my misunderstanding.

The keyboard 'quick search' feature of MC is the primary way I work with navigation and file selection.  Unfortunately it doesn't work for files with '.' in their name, as '.' appears to reset the list of typed characters.  It also doesn't work for '_' and any other non [a-z0-9] chars, as the quick search option states 'letters'.  Personally I consider this a bug, typing '.' should not reset the list of typed characters since it is valid file name char.  And the same goes for all other valid file name chars.

Hi, is there any way to help out with MC core development?  Is there a git repo?  I really like this program and can see how much effort has been put in already.  I'm happy to lend some time!

Thanks, I added a Multi-Script user-command with that code and it works (although shows the progress dialog).  I think it makes sense to include as an option in the core settings as opposed to having to write a custom user command.  Additionally, the option to minimize the progress bar by default should be there, perhaps indepent from the option to skip the confirmation dialogs.

It's very useful to have a separate 'file extension' column, that should remain, but I would also like the option to display the file extension in the 'name' column as well.  To me it's disconcerting to see the file name, but have to look somewhere else to look for the file extension - this is especially a problem when you have a lot of files with the same name, but different extension.  Is this possible to implement?  It would be a good improvement.

I note that there is a great ability to add custom columns, but unfortunately I don't see a column that has the full file name

I don't use any of the options on these dialogs, they just get in my way.  Really, copy,move,delete - file management - is the core function of a command program, these features are used frequently!  There are options to disable many other confirmation dialogs, please add an option to disable these dialogs (and use the defaults).  At the same time, please add an option to automatically minimize (hide) the file copy/move/delete progress bar.  It is much better to just have the awesome little progress bar down the bottom right show you what's going on and let you get on with other tasks.
