How to help with development

Hi, is there any way to help out with MC core development?  Is there a git repo?  I really like this program and can see how much effort has been put in already.  I'm happy to lend some time!

MC is free but not open source.
Many reason why, some are that MC is using some commercial libraries and some other libs that are free but not open

But there is a API so it is possible to create plugins and release that as open source.
