Root cause is that the Trend sucks. and they have bad way to detect threats. The way AV software work it is real easy to flag files that are not an issue.

And False Positives are super common for Filemanager application. AV software see that this application is using lots of file APIs and that look suspicious so then it flags it, It often goes away after a while when their process have checked it more in depth or something.

Since false positives are super common a good way to verify is to use virualtotal.com to check files. if just some report its bad then its probably false positives. if most of them flags it then it is bad.

I just experienced an infected MultiCommander.exe message in Norton 360. I uploaded the file to VirusTotoal.com and all checked out fine. See attachments.

Using Multi Commander - Portable (x64) v16.2 (build 3205) - Date of build : Aug 19 2026

Can the developers write to Norton and Trend Micro and ask them to white list the program?

They should give their own reasons they are flagging the program as infected.

No you can't do that.  They would get so much work to handle all the reports, and they don't want to do that
They don't care.  since they use signature checking and analytic to determine if a program should be flagged or not. there will always we false positives.  It often fix it self since people white list good software and AV companies will get reports on this and so on.
