Ok I thought so, but I also thought to ask / inform you.
It's not important anyway.

Thanks

Support and Feedback / right click menu issue
« on: January 07, 2024, 09:14:13 »
Hi all

MC portable in WIN10. When I right-click an EXE file, I have the option "pin to start" in order to send a shortcut of the file to start menu. This doesn't work through MC but works fine in WIN explorer.

Support and Feedback / skip errors in copy operation
« on: April 14, 2023, 10:07:47 »
When I copy a large amount of files, some files fail to copy due to several reasons so the whole procedure pauses until I click on the error message. This is correct of course but it also causes a lot of delay if you don't see the error message soon.

Is there a way to skip all these errors so that the whole copy operation finishes?
(Ideally with a summary error report at the end)

hi all

I have two small problems so any help is welcome.

1.
When I copy or move a file from another program to MC with drag and drop, the copy/move window is hidden and I have to click on the MC main window in order for the small copy window to come in front and continue.
This doesn't happen if the MC main window was last in focus.

2.
If the audio files tags are in Greek they are not displayed correctly (see attachments)

5
You are right of course

thanks  a lot

Support and Feedback / change column layout for specific folders
« on: March 24, 2022, 12:37:29 »
hi

Is it possible to set different column layouts for several folders?

eg use music column layout for music folders only

so far when I change the layout for a folder it is not saved, unless I make it default, but this way it becomes default for all folders and this is something I don't want

hi

In audio files the tags that are in Greek language are not displayed properly, while filenames in Greek are ok.

Also sometimes the cover image is not displayed at all

Any ideas?

In the attached screenshots the unreadable text is in Greek and the cover should be there

Support and Feedback / Re: select files from keyboard

Would using the Norton Commander keyboard hotkeys via the MC commander-style setup solve this for you?

sorry I am not sure what you mean

It depends on what default setup you choose

to be honest I don't remember. I 've been using MC for many years and I have customized a lot of things

Quote
The CommandStyled setup is more keyboard friendly then Insert key will toggle selection and move to next
Space normal also toggle selection but will also calculate size of folder if it is a folder.
Shift + arrow keys will do range selection.

I know these options but this is not what I am looking for. I want to select several files or folders that are not one after the other and then execute a command (let's say copy to..)

Quote
If you do WinExplorerStyled setup then mouse is in focus and Ctrl/Shift selection normally works (unless you messed around in setting and turned it off)

this is how I do it right now but I would rather not use the mouse.

There are toggle command in keyboard setup that you can hookup keys to.

the only commands I found were 'insert, space and num+' but as I already said they don't work for me

Support and Feedback / select files from keyboard
« on: January 06, 2017, 12:23:35 »
Is there any way to select several files or folders from keyboard?. I mean using the arrow keys to highlight and then a keyboard shortcut to select one by one.
In win explorer you can do it with CTL - arrow keys - space, but in MC this can not be done.
(num+ is not what I am looking for because you have to use filters and shift+arrow keys selects only adjacent files)

11
Configuration / Explorer Panel Settings / Selection Methods / Select and Unselect when navigating over files and folders

check this option

I think this is what you are looking for.

But you can get all files and folder from a path in a view by searching for everything at a location.

I am sorry but I don't get it. Could someone please explain how to do this?

Enter path in field just above.

are you talking about the field that says "auto load to path"?. I can delete the default paths in there but I can't add anything. (or maybe I am just fool)

If you copy a large file. abort the copy.. but keep the broken file, and then copy the file again
nice thought. I think I 'll start using it

Append if you want to join file.
I was thinking something like this but I was confused because if you do this with a picture for e.g. the target picture stays the same but its size is double

It was change to this behavior a while ago because this is how it works in Windows Explorer and most people preferred that.

ok but MC is supposed to be better than win-explorer, but anyway if most people prefer that way, I can live with it.

You can have different columns set for different folders. Right click on column and select Customize Column sets and you can specify at what path a specific column set should be used.

I have seen this option but I am not able to edit the path list and when I press the "add" button nothing happens, so I thought it was something else.

To press enter on the m3u you had to enter the folder first. With the button you did not have to enter the folder first

I see. It's nice thought but I never noticed since I don't use it

Support and Feedback / copy dialog
« on: August 23, 2013, 10:55:15 »
When I try to copy a file to a folder where there is also a file with the same name, the copy dialog opens and among all other options there are "append" and "resume". Can somebody explain these functions and what happens when copying different types of files?

Feature Requests and Suggestions / my wishlist
« on: August 23, 2013, 10:43:37 »
here are some of my suggestions

1. when you want to rename a file after pressing F2, the filename is highlighted but:

when I  press the right arrow, the cursor goes after the dot, while I would prefer to stay at the end of the filename but before the dot (and the extension of course)
and when I press the left arrow, the cursor goes one letter before the end of the file name, while I would prefer to go to the beginning of the filename

It used to be like this sometime ago and it was changed again after an update but I am not sure when..

2. I would like the several column sets to be saved and used independently for every folder. for e.g. different column set for music or picture folders.

3. the "play music in folder" button is useless if you don't have an m3u list of the songs and I really don't use such lists. I think it would be better to play all (or selected) mp3s with the default app. (after all if you use m3u lists it is easier to highlight it and press enter:-)

+1    I really miss this function

Tips and Tricks / Re: Pasting clipboard data into Multi Commander
« on: January 03, 2013, 01:51:03 »

When you drag'n'drop a pictures it comes to MC as a file and not as pure picture (BITMAP) data. So it would not be good idea to start converting it. Then all .bmp files you copied would be converted.
[/quote]

I see what you mean but then maybe you could have the option to convert it, like you have when you copy/paste it.

anyway this is not a big deal but
1. what is the difference when you copy/paste something from the clipboard?
and
2. what is the difference with win explorer?

when I drag & drop the same picture into a window of win explorer it is saved as jpg with size 14 kB and if I drop it into MC it is saved as bmp of 200 kB size.

I agree. this feature is great and I use it all the time. You can also drag and drop a picture into MC, but in that case it is saved in bmp format by default  and that can not be changed. Don't you think that jpg is more preferable ?

    2. an easy way to select non consecutive files using the keyboard
for e.g. in win explorer you hold down the ctl key, then move down with arrow key and select individual files with space key

    3. an option in picture tools to resize or compress
    either in terms of percentage (10 - 30 - 50 %) or in a few predefined resolutions  (small - medium - large)

    4. change of the arrow behavior during rename function
I explain.  after you press "rename" or f2, the selected ......

2. Im note sure what you mean with this.

3. You mean like a quick zoom feature. pressing shortcut x and it wlil got to 10% and pressing y it will got to 20 % ?
Or do you mean that it should resize and save the image to disk ?

4. This is fixed in v2.5.1

I reply here because the other thread is locked

2. it is clear if you try it in win explorer
you scroll down in a list with the arrow key, stop on a file so this file is selected (highlighted), press CTRL key (and keep it pressed), scroll further down, stop on another file and press spacebar. then this file is also selected. (You can also deselect a selected file with the spacebar)
It is all similar to CTRL + left mouse click

3. I mean  it should resize and save the image to disk (with a different filename or an option to replace the old one). It could be very well combined with the "picture format conversion" in "picture tools"
