Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: not opening all selected
« on: March 07, 2012, 13:39:07 »
If you have multiple files selected and selecting to execute them (pressing return) or some other option that will make windows open them or do something with them. What should happen?

And that is not an easy question to answer. It actually depends on the situation and user.

If you got pictures select and you press enter.. (And you do not have any special opened action is defined for picture files inside MC) then the execute action will be sent to windows and depending on what you got installed different things will happen.. You might get one instance of a picture viewer that will toggle between all the selected files or you might get multiple instances for every selected file.

If i select 200 mp3 files.. and press enter I will not get 200 instances on WinAmp.. I get one instances but all the selected files are queued in WinAmp.

I tried to keep the same for the rules for launching multiple selected files that Windows Explorer has.

However I can see how it can be a problem in some situation.

I do not think executing multiple items should be disabled, since it is used a lot. and even Windows Explorer support it is users expect it to work.
But maybe there needs to be an option to disable it. and/or an option to ask user what to do if more then X files are selected.
or some other option.

I will put it in my list of issues to find solution for.

4027
1) a quick shortcut to replace all files. Example: i just downsampled a lot of images and now I want to overwrite them. I do F6, Enter, and then I get the overwrite question. Would be great if every one of those buttons would have a little hotkey. For example I'd do "F6, Enter, (alt?)l" sequence very fast knowing that would quickly select replace-all. Since this is done often I think this would speed up the workflow in MC.
There should be accelerator shotcuts already .. but after looking now it looks like they are gone.
Accelerator shotcut are when you see "Replace" and the character that is underlined is the shortcut for the button. You often see this shortcuts in menus and dialog.
I will put them back..

2) one button that I think is missing there is Auto-rename and Auto Rename All. In cases like this with tens of files in case you know they just all happened to have been numbered in a generic way like 1, 2, 3, 4, .... by the camera it would be nice to have the option to autorename them with one click. For example then if there are two 1 images the new one would become 1a or something like that
The entire "Overwrite" dialog is on my list of thinks that need a complete redesign. Because if I add all the options one can have there you end up with 15-20 buttons. and that is UI hell. That dialog need to be smarter some way. However there are some auto rename think in MC. But right now I do not remember when it is triggered. Will have to look it up.

Oh, and that reminds me, maybe it's changed since then, but would also be nice to have an all as administrator in case it's needed. I haven't needed this recently so maybe the issue is gone but I remember a while ago I was deleting stuff from a mobile hdd and for every single file it would ask me if I want to do it as administrator and go into that authorization mode.
Under Core Settings there is a "Run as Administror Mode" category
Make sure "Auto retry as admin" is on. Then it should not ask to retry as admin, it just do that automaticcly . (Well depend on in what situation it is and what it is doing)
If it still asks to many times. give me a situation where it fails and I will see if I can fix it.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: double click on Whitespace
« on: March 06, 2012, 17:10:58 »
= Can't find the tree view though screenshots suggest it exists - perhaps mention it in the documentation?
To show the FolderTree view you press then first icon to the right of where free space is shown.
Also ALT+Num* will toggle the FolderTree

= What I really would love is that double-clicking in white space in explorer view would navigate up one level in the path.

I will see if it is possible to add an configuration option for that.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: filtering + folders
« on: March 06, 2012, 14:36:29 »
Yes.. "/" Used to be for folder specific filter. And for exclude it still works "-/FolderToExclude"
"!" is used for Date filtering  !today , -!today , !YYYY-MM-DD , -!YYYY-MM-DD

But /folderfilter has some problem. and are disabled. I will see if I can get it fixed.

hey, thank you. I couldn't find there to set a focused color background change, am I missing something? Would still be nice to have a bolded stroke around the currently focused file. Another idea would be how about having a black rectangle near it on the (center or both) panel border to make it clear that's where you're focused now. Also the ability to maybe have a focused font would be nice, like say when you have it selected it goes a little bit bold. For an even more dynamic visual effect the current file could have a 20% fade of color say into white and back, all very slowly, say looping in 5 seconds. Just some humble proposals to make the focused file more obvious.

Nice ideas, However I don't understand The black rectangle idea.
I might put some of the on my list of things to add.

However..

Adding style options is not an irrelevant task because some option might work in some situation on in some not.
A already had to remove some option because it was to easy to set option that was in conflict of each other and you got a weird behavior.

A lot of settings can be nice. But It can quickly become to much and it can easily become to hard to configure it.

In the beginning there was the possibility to almost configure everything, but the configuration look crazy.
You had  Normal, Focus, Checked , Selected , Checked and Selected, Checked and in Focus, Selected and in Focus , Checked and Selected and in focus
for both files and folders.
And then we got Text color, Background colors, Font, Font Style, font size.

5 settings per 8 state for both files and folder. Thats 80 settings options. And then I'm not counting all the other options there was like border settings, different colors if panel is in focus or not. and so on..

It was to much, There need to be a balance and also a lot of testing for all the style new options that are added so all conflicting situations are tested.

Explorer Panel Settings -> Color tab.

Make sure "Use file specified background colors" and "Use folder specified background colors" are checked.

Then for the "Focus" item under files and folders you can change the background for that item.

/ Used to work. But had to be disabled because of some weird conflicts in some situations

4033
So you want to be able to go to top/end of the list with Left/Right arrow keys.

Sound like something that should be easy to add as an option to the keyboard configuration.. I will put it on the list.

In the latest beta (Build 1005) there are a settings that will make it reset the filtering to *.* when you change path.
and one that will restore the filter when you return to a folder you previously had set a filter on.

Good idea. I will see if this can be added

The view filter (CTRL+F) does already support substring matching. So you can use that until quicksearch can support it.

Support and Feedback / Re: MUITICOMMANDER support relative path?
« on: March 05, 2012, 13:50:24 »
Yes.

Just make sure the path to program you enter is a correct relative path. relative to the installation folder of Multi Commander.

Eg
MultiCommander is installed in E:\MCPortable\
You got Notepad++ in E:\Bin\Notepad++\Notepad++.exe

Then call notepad++.exe using a relative path like
"..\Bin\Notepad++\Notepad++.exe"

For example if using "custom commands" for the button and you want the program to get the file in focus as a parameter
Code: [Select]
MC.Run CMD="..\Bin\Notepad++\notepad++.exe" ARG="${focusfilepath}"

You are correct.

I will try to have that fixed until next release.

4038
Ahh I see..

That is because of how Windows work. and because of the security in Windows.

If you logon with as a standard user but are member of local administrator group. Then you will have two (2) access tokens for your account.
And connected networks share are associated with the access token for your standard login account so when a program starts as administrator the second 'admin' access token is used. So a program running as administrator will not have the same access to the network connection.

It work like that because of security reasons in Windows.

Read more at Microsoft KB 937624

You can however enable Linked Connections so that program that runs as administrator will have the same access as program run as normal user.

  • Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
  • Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  • Point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  • Type EnableLinkedConnections, and then press Enter.
  • Right-click EnableLinkedConnections, and then click Modify.
  • In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  • Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Strange. I get them to show up here. I will try to track down what can go wrong, and make it not show them

That would be cool.
But it would require quite a bit of work to implement that. I might add it if I get some time.

The Tabbed Toolbar can not be removed. It was removable before but had some strange side affect so I had to make it locked in its place.

The entire tabbed toolbar area is on my list of things that need to be redesigned. But it will not happen until other more important things have been completed.

The Drive Toolbar can be removed by unchecking it in the Explorer Panel settings.

Support and Feedback / Re: 7-zip compression level
« on: February 24, 2012, 12:46:22 »
At the moment it is using the normal, and It ca not be changed.

But there are plans to include so that some of the compression options can be changed. Compression level is one of them.
But it might not be there in the next release. It depends on how much work it takes to add it.

« on: February 24, 2012, 12:42:13 »
That is one of the most popular features in Multi Commander. That it remember selections.
Right now it is not possible to disable that, But it should be easy to add and I will see if this can be added to the next release.

Normally it should use the same auto close settings as the default option for the copy/move dialog.
but it looks like the auto close settings are not used when unpacking using the unpack feature from the menu > file > unpack ..

Will be fixed in next release

Interesting idea.
I have some plans for a new and improved favorite system. I will include you notes and see what I can come up with.

At the moment there are couple of ways to create path shortcuts.

You can have a path assigned to Ctrl+<num> (0-9) (hotpaths)  you configure them by right clicking the the path field or with ctrl+H

You can also assign aliases for a path. But then you have to type more then 1 letter to get there.
eg. if you stand in you download folder and in the commandline field you types "alias2 dl" then a alias named "dl" will be created. This alias will be set to change the path to what the current path is when the alias was created. (that this moment it is your download folder.)  and then when you type "dl" in the commandline field it will change the current panel to that path.

You can also add a user command that change path and assign then to a menubar or keyboard shortcut.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: Multiple columns
« on: February 23, 2012, 21:42:44 »
List mode like in Windows Explorer. .(Multiple file items per row) are not yet supported. Only 'Detailed' mode (1 item per row) are supported at the moment.
List mode it is very high up on the list for new features for future releases.

To use a customized column layout are you default layout you right click on the column header and select 'Customize column sets' and then select the [Default] column set.
Then you can customize it by adding/removing column.. or you can copy your current column setup to the default from the "copy column from" dropdown list.
when you done just click "save changes" and the [Default] column set is changed and by default it should not be used.
