Support and Feedback / Re: Search for... can't find any texts.
« on: February 04, 2024, 18:33:32 »
The main competitors (Double Commander, FreeCommander XE, Total Commander) support built-in search for file contents in office xml formats (docx, xlsx, odt, ...) and epub

FreeCommander XE also supports external converter xdoc2txt to search for file contents in the following formats - rtf;docx;xlsx;pptx;doc;xls;ppt;sxw;sxc;sxi;sxd;odt;ods;odp;odg;pdf;eml (in pdf format in this case there should be recognized text, not a picture)

If you need any additional information, I can write how it works

Updated version 11.6.0.2845 to beta version 12.0.0.2888 and it works fine, thanks. I just don't understand what was wrong before. In any case, changed crash dump settings to Max if something like this happens again in the future

Updated to version 12.0.0.2885 - again crash.

From http://multicommander.com/downloads downloaded MultiCommander v11.6.0 (Build 2845) (32 bit) SHA1 : 1046D81971C39856698629AABB9505040A5A0745 and made "Upgrade", which is actually "Downgrade". And it works fine at the samу notebook without any additional actions on my part! Now I'm afraid to upgrade to a fresh beta. In the new versions, something is clearly broken on your side, otherwise the old version would not work either. How else can I help to solve this problem?

Yes, I'm sure (see screenshot) https://ibb.co/ftxHxqB

Edit
Tried to run
bcdedit /set xsavedisable 0
But the system reported:
"The boot configuration data cannot be opened.
Access denied."
Despite the fact that I am an Administrator

Edit2
Run cmd as Administator
bcdedit /set xsavedisable 0
Operation completed successfully
But again that not helped. Crash-ID: 12-C120RV

I'm running Windows 7 SP1.

Already had in my system:
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redist 2008 9.0.30729.6161
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redist 2010 10.0.40219
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redist 2015-2022 14.31.31103

Updated to Microsoft Visual C++ Redist 2015-2022 14.32.31326. Rebooted the computer. But nothing helped. Crash-ID: 12-L120AF

Yes. I can open MC_LangPack_en.zip and MC_LangPack_ru.zip files with Windows Exporer. I even checked the archives for integrity in Winrar 6.11 and 7-zip 21.07 and 22.00- No errors found. Can I provide any additional information to solve the problem?

Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. Updated to 12.0.0.2877. After the update, I can't even launch MultiCommander.
Crash-IDs: 12-X119HS and 12-B119UE
If you need any additional info, ready to send.

Before that, repeatedly updated and didn't experience any problems with the operation or app launch

Exclusively for information: 7-Zip 15.12 stable release was published just 2 hours ago.

Also the version number of 7zip jumped from 9 to 15 ( There have not been a lot of version since 9, so 9 is not 6 version old)

Yes, you are right, but I never counted something only according major version builds, but between version 9.20 and 15.11 there were 18 updates released... And if you open discussion for every build, you'll see how many changes is beyond the words 'Some bugs were fixed'

10
May be it's a good idea to update 7z Standalone Plugin from version 9.20, that is used in MC currently?

Of course, you can say, that current 7-Zip 15.11 is only beta, but look how many problems were solved since version 9.20 was released.

Beta Releases / Re: MC 5.5.1 build 1980 failed to read config file
« on: October 25, 2015, 18:19:45 »
Desided to make update from build 1975 to MC 5.6.1 build 2021 and I see no more that problem! It works fine in Windows XP SP3. Several times before I tried update to previous beta versions and MC refused to work. So problem is fixed now (hope, forever).

12
It would be simple, if xdoc2txt converter would be supported in MC like in other file managers. It helps to find text in most popular office formats rtf; docx; xlsx; pptx; doc; xls; ppt; sxw; sxc; sxi; sxd; odt; ods; odp; odg; pdf; eml.

Nothing helps me to solve the problem.

I was the owner of all files, but I forced update of user rights to all MultiCommander folders incliding subfolders for Program Files and Documents and Settings.
Also changed date for all folders to current. But it also could not solve the problem.

Something is very strange with your system
I could agree, if the problem was on only one computer, but it occurs on different systems with different apps installed.

It would bad if MC could no longer support Windows XP.

Are you sure, that MC is right with problem detection?

I made one more update and restore to understand what's the problem.

I must say, that C:\Documents and Seiings\<Profile name>\Application Data\MultiCommander\Config\MultiCommander.xml has no problem at all!
I just restored data in Program Files and everything works fine.

Then I desided to change only 1 file - MultiCommander.exe to latest version and app stopped working with the same error messages! All other files were from the old version.

Once you already made non working update for Windows XP after Visual C++ update. May be problem is similar... And I don't see any messages from my AV software and nobody could change content of xml files because nobody changed them. I restored MultiCommander.exe from previous version (5.5 build 1975) and MC works again! It's a miracle! So the problem is with 1 file - new MultiCommander.exe under Windows XP SP3.

Either the file is not a valid xml file..(something have modified it)
or you do not have permission to read it
or something is blocking MC from reading it  (AV/Security software/Sandboxing)

But previous version worked without any problems! Update "killed" MC

Quote
You should not pack xml files.. they are text files and need to be that. Packing them will corrupt them
I packed file to have ability to restore them if deleting would not solve the problem.

Quote
And you should not delete the file under program files since that is the "default" file, That file is never change.

But MC suggests to delete that files! You have to change warning messages.

I have one more computer running version 5.5 build 1975. I updated it today, and got the same problem. App worked till update. Now it says the same and couldn't start.
It was absolutely different PC with different config and different apps installed. Only OS was the same - Windows XP SP3.
Thanks God I made a backup. I restored previous version from backup (5.5 build 1975) and all works again without any problems!

So it is MC problem.

Beta Releases / MC 5.5.1 build 1980 failed to read config file
« on: August 18, 2015, 19:55:27 »
After update to current beta version 5.5.1 build 1980 from previous beta (maximum 7 days have passed since previous update, it worked without any problems) I see error messages:
Failed to open or read config file: C:\Program Files\MultiCommander\Config\MultiCommander.xml
It might be corrupt try to replace it with a backup or delete it.

Failed to open or read config file: C:\Documents and Seiings\<Profile name>\Application Data\MultiCommander\Config\MultiCommander.xml
It might be corrupt try to replace it with a backup or delete it.

Both messages are shown several times.

Tried to pack xml files and deleted both MultiCommander.xml files, but problem is still present.

OS Microsoft Windows XP SP3

P.S. By the way, comma is missing (after word corrupt) in English version of error message - It might be corrupt, try to replace it with a backup or delete it.

17
Sounds good. Hope so much that it would be implemented!

If in Configuration - Explorer panel settings... - Layout tab - I switch off "Device dropdown list", Alt+F1/F2 stop working.
For me "Drive buttons" is enough (I don't need dropdown list), but IMHO Alt+F1/F2 should work always (as it is done in all other file managers).

Multi Commander 3.5.1 build 1530

Create any file in russian, for example "тестовый документ с русскими буквами в названии.txt". In Windows Explorer (under Windows XP SP3) right click on that file and select Send to - Compressed zip folder. Now we get archive "тестовый документ с русскими буквами в названии.zip"
If we try to open such archive with Multi Commander, we see only inexplicable symbols instead of russian.

In other commanders (like Total Commander or FreeCommander XE) the same file is opened without any problems.

If we pack file "тестовый документ с русскими буквами в названии.txt" using Multi Commander in zip format, content of archive is shown correctly.

Support and Feedback / Any plans to support new RAR5 format archives?
« on: September 04, 2013, 19:32:18 »
Now MC could not open, list archive content or unpack RAR5 archives. Files could have old RAR extension or WR5 or RAR5.
We see error message:
Failed to open volume: <full pathname>
Unknown error (0)

Support and Feedback / MC failes to start after last update
« on: August 01, 2013, 14:54:02 »
After program update till Release v3.3 (Build 1446) (31-Jul-2013) MC fails to start on Windows XP Pro Rus 32 bit and show error message "Procedure entry point InitializeCriticalSectionEx not found in library DLL Kernel32.dll"
in Russian - "Точка входа в процедуру InitializeCriticalSectionEx не найдена в библиотеке DLL Kernel32.dll"

Previous version 3.2 (Build 1430) (16-Jun-2013) worked without any problems.

24
Different file commander do it in a different way.
In Total Commander file under cursor is NOT selected.
In FreeCommander XE file under cursor is selected.

25
MultiCommander 3.3 build 1442 32 bit edition from Jul 28 2013 (and earlier versions)

Selecting files with Shift + Arrow Down/Up does not seem to work as it should.

The last file (the one under cursor) is selected as well, while it should not be. Also it is impossible to deselect files with Shift + Arrow Down/Up.
