Support and Feedback / Re: lost pics!!!
« on: April 28, 2015, 16:34:50 »
OK I'll check log when I get a chance, thanks for the tip.

Yes they are lost. As the folder was on same drive the operation was actually Move. I simply dragged to second panel and thought they had been 'dropped' into the relevant folder, of which I was very careful about as I wanted them in dated folders.

All folders have been checked, I found some, about 25 ~ 30. But the others weren't in any of the folders or parent.

I tried using Recuva to locate anything that may have been deleted but couldn't see any of those missing.

I used mouse copy/paste files were moved from the folder to another folder on same drive but have completely gone. Don't know if Mc or windows performed the op but I've never had any file manager do that before.

I finally started to sort my pictures folder out and thought I'd give Mc a go, using the dual panels. I cut from one panel and pasted onto folder in second panel.  After a while I thought best to check and make sure they're copying OK, but found I'd lost over 150 pics!! I attempted recovery but nothing came up.

I didn't go into what I disagree with as It's been discussed and didn't want to rant on any more than I have and waste your time  :-[

I appreciate it must be difficult for developer's to try pleasing everyone, which is not possible of course, so best of luck to you  ;)

I see, thanks for the description. Keyboard is not really my favourite peripheral, perhaps I should try a different app after all then...

Thank you for your time Mathias

I am curious, you keep stating that File Explorers and Commanders are different, would you mind telling me what ways they differ please?

Hmm... I see what you mean, though I disagree to some extent. But then it's a free app that you seem to be developing for personal use, so it should be appreciated for what it is. That, I do, I just think, personally you may want to consider changing certain things for more customisation, but hey, like you said I'm probably the only one here that thinks that!

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions, however naive they may have been to you, thanks  ;)

Forgive me but you said the context menu is not from Mc but from windows. Yet everything else shows except Refresh? Seems strange this one thing is left out!

Do you not cater for those that require a minimal interface? Are you just adding stuff without thought of practicality regarding its placement?

Design is as important as function.  Its OK having a button,  but when that is the only button required on that toolbar you find yourself overcrowded with screen hogging toolbars with few functions! Hence I requested customisable toolbars that allow all buttons to be placed wherever best suited.

As I said I'm my very first post, this is an area few developers seem to cater for, and for the life of me,  I truly don't understand why! I know that he I were to design any software,  the first thing above function I would choose is customisation. That's important to every single person using any and every piece of software ever written.

But few dev's seem to realise how important that is. How many users would change things to suit their needs, then fine their productivity increases?!

Any way just my point of view,  no offence intended.

To be honest I couldn't look at a file manager and tell which category it belonged. I have tried every one I could find and the best of them,  apart from Mc and Xy, seen to be no longer developed. FreeCommander is the only other option but seem a bit buggy for my liking.

I understand there will be differences and adaptations required but I would have thought things like full row selection and refresh in the context menu should be standard fare from one file manager to the next?!

Mc has some great features and really easy to configure for the most part, so I've tried to persevere with it. Auto update, file types, color filters, and some other stuff all very well implemented and easy to use. I applaud you on the way it's done, but I do find it strange how some simple things have been excluded?

I appreciate Mc is free, and the fact my needs are probably far less demanding,  but don't you want Mc to reach a large audience? What about long term, do you plan on selling a pro version?  You should do, but for both these you'd need to add more customisation options.  Perhaps it's far too early for all that anyway?!

Forgive me if I'm out of line for saying this, I don't mean it as a criticism just an observation, hopefully you are the sort of person that understands what that actually means? But... You seem rather 'closed' when it comes to requests. Do you have your own 'plan' for Mc regardless of users?

Still, I think I may keep trying with Mc as I really like it, despite there niggles!

Kind regards

I mean,  R-click in windows explorer has option to Refresh,  Mc doesn't have this option. As the list view was full I thought it may be due to full row selection being set,  so I looked for a setting but cannot find one.

Both of these things are something I used very frequently, well full row selection was always off as I personally find it an irritation when trying to access windows context options for parent.

Is this possible? Normally you can use R-click/Refresh but doesn't seem to be available in MC?

It's ok I changed the font size which also had the effect of increasing Line-Spacing, thanks

Ok that's understandable.

It's just that the more I use Mc the more little niggles I'm coming across that make it more awkward for me to use!  :(

I can't seem to find a way of increasing the distance (Line-Spacing) between items in details view, can it be done?

Can that be changed or adapted in any way? Is it too much to do? I mean maybe you could adapt the StandardBar to accept any kind of Button to allow for cleaner Toolbar setup?

Yes but they aren't just for the browsing history, but the entire history, there's no segregation is there?

Ok fair enough. After looking at the portable folders, I see there's one for History and the .ini files contain settings for Session so I presume the two are interlinked making it difficult to delete one without the other? I would like to just clear browsing history alone, can that be done easily?

Thanks

Currently I have the DriveBar and CommandLineBar shown, but they are on seperate lines taking up unnecessary extra screen space, is there any way to put have them show on the same line?

Ok I just tried it and it strangely bought back the standard toolbar? Is that because that 'setting' to hide that toolbar is part of a Session?

I also lost Tabs due to being part of a Session, perhaps History and Session deletion should be seperate? In fact, wouldn't it be better to have each item as a list with check boxes? that way you could choose individually which requires deleting rather than picking a group and having to delete something you don't want to.

I've only just noticed that MC can't be made the default FileManager, or am I missing something? If I'm right and this feature isn't available or planned then this has to be my number one priority as a FR.

Thanks for the quick reply.

That sounds like it clears all User Data,  like settings, layout,  etc? Is that just for history? Such as browsing history,  or search history for instance?

Does Mc clear history on close? Is there a way to do this if Mc doesn't do it automatically?

As I've already said,  my file manager needs are quite simple compared to many users here, but Mc has so far really impressed me and have to say you've done a great job Matthias.
