Support and Feedback / Re: No Tiles/Icons View
« on: June 22, 2012, 23:50:45 »
I wonder if I used the wrong word. Here I mean zip folders to be having a "zip" icon, mp3 files to have icon of it's corresponding associated player, image icons to have icons of the image viewer on my PC. In Large Icons all appears just white, while in Small Icons view it's showing correctly.

The large icon should be exactly the same as the small icons, but bigger. If they are white, then they are not fetched. Try restarting MC. if they still are white then something in your system in preventing the large icons from being extracted.

Thanks but choosing large icons seems to mess the thumbnails. Will there be a fix?
Thumbnails ??
MC does not support tumbnails so I dont understand how it can mess with them ?

I see both columns.. but When I start to resize them. Then "expanded into" gets full with and it takes the complete width. Some column size issue. I will look into it.

Strange that you do not see both column when the dialog is first shown.

What OS are you running ? XP ?

Is it possible to toggle this settings via custom commands?
I haven't found a way.
No not yet. But I actually be have been thinking about a way to add so script should change settings options.

The icon size is changed in settings.

Menu > Configuration > Explorer Panel Settings

Layout (Tab) > Icons (Category)

Icon Size

There you can change icon size to Large (32x32)

There is a new command for changing that settings faster. :)

":showhidden" - Will show system and hidden files.
":hidehidden" - Will hide system and hidden files.

type it in the command line field.  (do not include the " )

If the second column does not fit completely in visible area. And user move focus to a file item in that column.
It will only auto scroll that column it if less then 75% is visible.
I had it so it always scrolled if it was not 100% visible. but UI experience was weird, and it would autoscroll in situation where you wonder why it did so, because for the user it was not needed.

However when showing file with the file extension to the right I can see that in this case it might be more of an issue.

So maybe handle it different if that option is on? or maybe always draw the file extension, if column end is out of visible area then move the position where the file extension is drawn so it is always visible? I will do some testing.

Now that v2.5 is out the planing for the next major release have started.

I got a list of new features and changes I want to do. But that list contains mostly my own wishes and
since we all have different needs and wishes I would like to hear from you.

What feature do you want to be added ?
What do you want to be able to do ?
What existing feature does not work and should be change? And how should it be change?
What do you want to be able to tweak and customize ?
What do you want to be able to do with script ? what needs to be added it it ?
For file task that you do often, How can some feature be added so you can do it easier/faster?

Any idea are welcome.  small, big, smart or stupid.

I will however not promise that I will add all of them, It all depends on what it is and how much work it required.

I will not comment on your suggestions in here, or saying that it is already on my list or if it is good or if it is not possible to add.
I will collect all ideas now and at a later time I will present a list with all the suggestions where they then can be discussed.

Support and Feedback / Re: Line numbers in multiviewer
« on: June 16, 2012, 22:49:33 »
Just noticed that with "Word wrap" enabled line number is showed for the each wrapping of a line.
E.g. in AkelPad and Notepad++ line number is showed only once. See pic.

Maybe it is by design but looks a little bit confusing:)

Yes, it is by design. But I will consider if I it should be changed.

Support and Feedback / Re: Quicklaunch bugs
« on: June 16, 2012, 20:08:17 »
Quicklaunch bugs related to WinXP with themes disabled still remain.

1. Focus around buttons with "Allow - rearrange buttons" enabled (see pic)
2. When you move mouse to the edge of the MC window and get resize cursor, then move mouse back to Quicklaunch, cursor remains instead of becoming arrow

MC v2.5
1. I only got XP in a vmware and Im not able to recreate the problem in there.
2. If i move the mouse over very fast, I can recreate this. I will add it to the fix list

Some words about "Save current layout as default" action in columns popup menu.

1. If i uncheck column(s) in popup, then save as default, unchecked column(s) become checked and layout is saved with all columns. So i need to "Customize colums..." first and then save as default. Too many operations to do. I think unchecked columns should not be saved.

2. "Save as default" saves view modes separately for each panel, while colums set is one for both panels. And after saving as default columns set is immediately applied to both panels. I think that default layout should be either different for each panel or the same for both. Not mixed.

1. I know. It is a bit strange. But for now uncheck means temporary disable them. But they are still in the column set, but hidden temporary.
I have it on my list of things to fix in the future. But it is a too big of a code change this close to final release of v2.5

2. If you have 2 panels with the default column layout and you change how the default column layout looks, all views that are showing the default layout will be updated.
Before I had it so that only current view was updated. But it was messy and I got a lots of complains that users needed to go in and update all their views manually.
It think it is better that they are synced. It will only update the other views when you a changing the default column set. And you do not do that often.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: Silent Copy on mouse drag
« on: June 09, 2012, 17:25:26 »
In the latest beta (1101+) That option exits for drag and drop operation.
it is under "Core Settings" and the last in the "FileSystem" tab.

3864
In the latest Beta (Build 1106+) you can press Ctrl+T in the copy progress dialog and it will toggle the Always on Top state on/off.

The Update program does not know about the portable mode or not. It is standalone and can be run without any other parts.
MU is a part of MC package. I suppose that all parts of a package shoud have the same run mode unless it is impossible to implement.
Problem is that MU is entire standalone.. You can take MultiUpdate.exe and run on another computer and it will download the complete installer if it can now update.
MU does not read any config files or anything.

It only save some session settings in registry if you go into settings menu, That have to be good enough for now. Im not going to redesign how the update program works at this time.

III. Why does MU in portable mode store its settings in registry?

It does not. Normally it should not unless somethings with the settings have change.

In the about menu. It should say "Running in portable mode : yes"

MC shows "Running in portable mode : yes". I delete registry settings for multiupdate, then run multiupdate, change settings. Aftetr that registry entry appears again.

I. Language editor bug

1. Open Language editor on the one panel. Export and Restore work.
2. Open Settings page on the other panel. Export and Restore in language editor don't work.
3. Close settings page. Export and Restore in language editor still don't work until reopened.
I only get it to fail if the tab focus in in the opposite panel. If you click on someplace in the language so that tab gets the in focus. Then it will work.

---
II. MultiUpdate bug

Very often MU displays "Lost connection... Retrying..." and after few attempts nothing happens. Progress bar remains at the same position, no new "Lost connection... Retrying..." lines appear. After restart MU starts downloading from beginning and that situation may happen again.
It will only retry a couple of times. There are two download path i the update program.  in settings you can change to/from use WinInet for download.
try change that and see if that works better.

Not just removing, but to modify the queue by moving items and more are planed. And will be added in the future.

Sound like a good idea..  I will add it to the list.

« on: June 04, 2012, 22:00:54 »
However, I did not expected something related to tabs in the panel settings (which is "inside" the tab), so why I didn't search there. Save On Eixt settings are more for core than Panel, IMO.

Well yes and no. It is under Explorer Panel settings because of how everything is built. Everything in MC is a plug in/extension and the Explorer Panel is really a plugin that visualize the internal filesystem.
So that why the settings is there.

But all tabs that used to be on network drives (like S: mounted on \\srv\softs) or UNC paths are now on the root of C: drive.
Correct. It does not save networks path by default. That is a feature.

Under Explorer Panel Settings.. at the bottom of the settings page there is a category named "Save on exit"

Uncheck "Save only path to local harddrive"

And my last point:
- Is there a setting to disable reopening of tabs on next launch ?

There is also an option name "Remember open paths" if this is off.. It will not load old tabs.

And if you starts MC with command line options to open some path. This will override what is saved.

Ahh the toolbar menu options

View->Toolbars menu only has Command line bar on Windows XP. Hide/Show only works for the command line bar. the other toolbar are always on, in Windows XP.

you can disable them in config. but it require restart to show/hide them

I will see if I can fix a workaround for it and enable it in Windows XP. But not sure if I get it into this release.

Maybe you disabled the other toolbars in config ?

I know. Maybe bad names. But I did not found any good name,

They are needed to be able to simulate the Windows Explorer style.
(Was named something else in previous release. but I tweaked how they worked and so, so that did not match either)

I also been trying to remove the "checked" state for the user. before there was both selected and checked in the color config, and it was confusing. because in 9/10 times the user did not see any different. and so even if there are a different internally they are not shown out to the user now.

And it is really messy.. been trying to clean it up but the problem is that the two styles (Commander vs WinExplorer) conflicts with each other to much.

The first option is really "sync selection and checked state".  So items automatically gets "checked/unchecked" when they an item gets "selected/unselected"
The first option should maybe be indented under the second.. because alone it gets a weird behavior

Hmm Or maybe skip all and have a dropdown list with 3 selection. because the only reasonable setup is either none selected or both or just the second option ("unselect other files ...")
