Support and Feedback / Re: Some fs-registry related issues
« on: October 08, 2011, 19:13:03 »
1. Shame on me, i haven't tried this :)
3. Maybe MC should not guess the type when copying files to registry, but should istead ask for a type with a possibility to apply the choice to all files?

P.S. This is just a particular case and warning may be enough. But in general there could be different ways of using the same operations on different types of plugins (or even between them) and not always you can predict what a user can do. So maybe a check should be done to block 100% 'incompatible' actions like change filetime for registry params. IMHO such approach has at least 2 'pros':
1. You protect a user from potentially bad things
2. You protect yourself from possible wasting time on debugging/remaking and reading angry comments :)

Support and Feedback / Some fs-registry related issues
« on: October 08, 2011, 18:13:05 »
1. How can i edit registry param? I can create but have no idea how to edit.

2. Enter some registry path with existing parameters (i've created test path and params for experiments). Now open Windows registry editor and enter the same path. Now edit some parameters ans return to MC. Exit the path and enter it again - all values remains unchanged until you manually refresh the panel view.

3. I think some actions should be disabled for fs-registry (and other specific plugins). E.g. it is impossible to change file attributes or pack registry parameters

Moreover, they may have unpredictable results. Example.
a) Open Windows registry editor, create some test folder.
b) Create two different keys with the same data. E.g "Param1" with type REG_SZ and value "test", and "Param2" with type REG_BINARY and value "74 00 65 00 73 00 74 00 00 00" (all without quotes).
c) In MC pack this folder to some disk path, then delete this folder in registry and unpack from archive
Result: there are 2 these parameters in the folder but both have type REG_SZ

I haven't explored much but i suppose that such 'unusual' actions may even sometimes be dangerous.

some more size issues

Actually, you may display a combo-box with a list of file-type color profiles. So there could be only one 'line' with profile combo, color combo and Add/Delete buttons.

555
Maybe it would be better to realise it via plugin/extension if possible? So everyone could create as many profiles as needed.

556
Thank you for explanations. But i still don't understand the meaning of 'selected' color. Yes, the files are coloured, but how they can be used? 'Selected' is not the same as 'Checked/Marked' because when i try to e.g. copy the group of 'selected' files, only focused file is copied.

557
Thanks, i've realized how to do it via GIU. Unusual way for me :)

558
How should 'Auto check files and folders when multi selecting' option exactly work? And how should files/folders be coloured?

I've enabled this option and that's what happens:
1. When holding Shift, files are (un)- checked/marked
2. When holding Ctrl, files are coloured as 'selected', but don't checked/marked (see pic)
But tip for Selected colour says that this colour is never shown if 'Auto check...' option enabled.

By the way, what is the sense of 'Selected' colour?

I've 'played' with Explorer a little bit and i may state that MC's 'Explorer styled selection' works the other way than in Explorer. I'll try to explain.

1. Open Explorer an go to path with enough files
2. Set focus to some file and press Shift
3. Now set focus to another file (holding Shift), so that a group of files is selected
4. Now release Shift, press Ctrl and select a file not in the selected group
5. While holding Ctrl, press Shift and select another file, so you have the 2nd group selected

So you may select several groups and single files. Deselecting works the same way. I've made a video.
In MC it is impossible (or i don't know how)

Support and Feedback / Why different types of tooltips?
« on: October 06, 2011, 06:24:40 »
Yesterday i've found out why some tooltips are not displayed. There are 2 reasons.

1. MC uses 3 different types of tooltips:
  a) regular (e.g. as for Button panel);
  b) balloon (e.g. as in Button editor);
  c) custom (for file/folder information).

2. I've disabled balloon tooltips in Windows configuration :)

As i can see, the 3d type tooltips don't depend on Windows settings. Maybe it makes sense to use only one type (1st or 3rd) for all elements? For the sake of uniformity and independence from windows settings :)

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Inverted cursor (Focus Rectangle)
« on: October 05, 2011, 19:55:45 »
It's more convenient for me to see inverted cursor (focus rect) like in the pic.
I'd like to see it in one of the future versions if it is not hard to implement.

561
The colour of focus rectangle in the explorer panel differs from the one in options (see pic)

Support and Feedback / Some translation problems
« on: October 05, 2011, 08:02:10 »
I work on translting MC and there are some problems.

1. Sometimes there is not enough space for the translated word while shortened words may be not good-looking and hard to understand. However some dialogs have enough free space, like Button editor (pic1). Maybe such dialogs can be redesigned a little bit or even made resizable if possible?

2. In some cases tooltips are not shown, so i can't be 100% sure whether i'm right or not although translating is possible (pic2). Of course the translation is far from the end, so maybe i'll eventually find out where every item shoul be :)

Support and Feedback / Button editor bugs
« on: October 05, 2011, 07:36:14 »
1. Open/Save dialogs are opened in the background of Button Editor (see pic1)
2. Select "Batch Script" as command type and press [Options]. Result is on pic2

564
so then everything is saved under the application folder.
As i can see, everything is saved into the "config" subfolder of the app folder. So maybe "Help->Go to...->Config folder" should lead to "%app_folder%\config" ?

565
I wonder whether it is a bug or not. When you select menu "Help->Go to...->Config folder" application folder is opened, just like in case of   "Help->Go to...->Application folder".
MC v1.2.0 Portable

566
Now i'm also unable to reproduce it. Strange, because yesterday it was easy reproducable.

567
1. Open Settings or Language editor
2. Close MC
3. Open MC.

Result: empty panel where Settings or LE panels was before exit. The only way to turn it to explorer panel is via context menu.

Support and Feedback / [FIXED] "Hide Folders" hides all items
« on: October 03, 2011, 11:49:52 »
Pressing "Hide folders" button hides all items - folders and files (MC v1.2.0)

569
I tried to turn on the "logging" core setting, but if its logging i don't know where, tried looking for a log file in "%TEMP%" as well as the app tree.
On WinXP non-portable MC holds log files in the %userprofile%\Application data\MultiCommander\Logs

570
If you have the time. I can send you a build of MultiCommander that output some logging about that it does when scanning the filesystem.
Sure. I'll try to help.

571
When trying to enter existing but inaccessible share via Windows Explorer, standard dialog appears (see pic).
MC just doesn't connect without any message

572
I use OEM Windows XP SP3 Professional (Russian) x32.

I've just tried to unload all programs except antivirus (McAfee).
1. I launched MC without folders tree. OK (pic 1).
2. In the address field i've entered '\\ganeev\d$'. OK.
3. Switched folder tree on. NOT OK (pic 2).

I've never observed '\\ganeev\d$' via MC before the problem occured.

'Hand' icons are shown normally in Explorer and NexusFile too.

573
1. Start MC without folder trees.
2. Go to root of some drive, e.g. D:\
3. Switch on tree view.
4. In the address field enter \\[your_computer_name]\d$

Result: all items in the file panel are doubled. See pic.

P.S. My computer is in the domain, so i don't know whether it can be reproduced on the 'regular' PC.

P.P.S. Why does sorting in the tree view differs from the one in file panel?

P.P.P.S. I have enabled all Icons options, but MC doesn't display 'hand' overlay icon on the shared folders (for both hidden and visible shares)

Support and Feedback / Re: removed file extensions
« on: July 19, 2011, 09:23:38 »
I don't know whether it's really the MC's fault because you haven't described what you've exactly done. So i can't check. But if you use Windows XP, there is an option to hide known extensions (the only thing that occurs to me).

1. Open Control Panel
2. Click Appearance and Themes
3. Click Folder Options > View
4. Scroll down and check 'Hide extentions for known file types' (or uncheck to show)
5. Click OK.

Support and Feedback / How to search for hex bytes combination?
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:53:22 »
For example, i have a simple text file (CP-1251, Ansi) with text "test" without cuotes. So in hex it looks like "74 65 73 74".
Now i try to search "74 65 73 74" in files with checked Hex option. But it finds nothing.
