This seems to be similar to a bug I reported long back. I never followed it up because I wasn't using the feature much and also the author couldn't replicate it.
Here's the link http://forum.multicommander.com/forum/index.php/topic,1530.msg5526.html#msg5526 (the first bullet point)

  • File Type Setup > Icons --> I created multiple extensions and used a single dll file to set their icons, and later when I deleted a single extension or changed its icon to another dll/ico file, the whole of the extension which used the initial dll file lost their icons or sometime the extension themselves disappear
Not sure I understand. Not able to recreate that

Still seeing the bug, maybe limited to winxp.

  • Is it possible for user created menu items to show their original exe file icon. At present it is just grey in colour. It is just an eye-candy but would improve the aesthetics a lot
No, icon in menu is not support. Might be in the future, Whole menu system is being redesigned. however the new system will not be supported on XP.

Waiting for the day. Maybe it's time to move away from xp. It's just that I got it working just the way I want it, to disturb it.

Sorry for late reply, road re-laying in my part of town accidentally cut off the telephone lines, so I was without net connection past week.

Not able to recreate that. Only the selected menu item is deleted when I try

I have added image to illustrate my point (sorry, don't know how to embed the image into the post)

This might be a bug. have not tested but will check it out later.

I had already reported it once before. Hopefully will be corrected in the next version

Since you can write a lot of different things there it is not possible to just have a button since then the program need to analyze and try to figure out what is what and what to change.  It is to messy.  Easiest thing is to use MultiScript instead it support a lot more

I am now slowly trying to understand the multiscript concept, hopefully will understand enough to try your method.

Ofz, the QuickLaunchbar does understand user defined commands. it just lunches programs.  It is like the quicklinks bar on the taskbar in XP

Yes, quicklauncher understands the user defined commands, but if I have used relative paths in userdefined commands, then it does not show the proper icon of the exe file.

  • Is there any progress in making multicommander and listary to play good?
Don't know. Have no idea what they need or anything like that.

Sorry to hear that. This is the only thing I miss in Explorer.

Not sure what 'sage' is.  But it looks like it is a shell extension that hook into windows thumbnail engine, Then it will be used by MC if the Thumbnail engine used is set to Windows. As it is by default on Win7+,

Maybe different in win xp, not a big deal. If MC supports it natively without need to add the sagethumb extension it would be awesome.

Standard shell extensions should work in MC.  But a customized MC context menu is planned.

That's great news. Filemenu tools work in MC. But I thought if it is inbuilt in MC, that is one more program I don't have to install. Recently i've started using another context menu tool called KuShellExtension http://sourceforge.net/projects/kushellext/. It also uses xml file.

Keyboard customization > Module : Explorer Panel
command "Files/Folder path and name"

Got it. Thanks.

It's me again with one more similar bug
  • File Type Setup > Icons --> I created multiple extensions and used a single dll file to set their icons, and later when I deleted a single extension or changed its icon to another dll/ico file, the whole of the extension which used the initial dll file lost their icons or sometime the extension themselves disappear

Now a request/query:
  • Is it possible for user created menu items to show their original exe file icon. At present it is just grey in colour. It is just an eye-candy but would improve the aesthetics a lot

More info: I'm on winxp sp3

Thanks for listening.

    Awesome programme. It has almost replaced the windows shell. Thanks a million for coding it and maintaining it. You really must love coding and your fellowmen.

    I'm still using v5.5 (build 1975) portable version, if any of the bugs i'm reporting has already been fixed in the latest version, please let me know.

    Bugs?:
    • If I have created a used defined menu item through "user defined commands" and used it to arrange it to in a submenu along with other items using "menu customization option" and then if I delete the single menu item, the whole of the submenu along with other items also deleted.
      For eg, if create Notepad++ menu item and arranged it under user menu > Office, deleting Notepad++ menu item also deletes the whole Office submenu. The only way to avoid it is to first remove the item from the submenu and then delete it from "user defined commands"
    • "File types setup" > "Icons": treats extensions in caps and lower cases separately and I have create separate commands for each case
    • "user defined commands" > "New" > "command type" > "External" --> gives only absolute paths with no option to convert it to relative path. I can convert it to relative path manually using ${mcinstallpath} (but not ${mcpath}). Wish there is an option to do it with a button
    • This in relation to the above: If I create an item with relative path using the above method and then use it to create an icon in the quick lauch bar with "Insert User Defined Command", it does not show the original icon. I have use cutomize option to insert the path to the original exe file through the "alternate icon" option. But it does not accept relative paths whether I try ${mcinstallpath}or ${mcpath}
    • Is there any progress in making multicommander and listary to play good?

    Moving away from bugs;
    • Is there any future plan to integrate option like in sage thumbs? SageThumbs Sourceforge / SageThumbs Present page. I already use sage thumbs to preview files in explorer in thumbnails view, but it does not show up in multicommander thumbnails view
    • Is there any future plan to add context menu support ala filemenu tools? FileMenu Tools
    • Also can anybody educate me on how to change the keyboard shortcut for Tools > to clipboard > files/folders path and name? Thanks

If not possible to make them work together, is it possible to have an option to forward keystrokes to the filter bar instead of the commandline bar. Though not as powerful as listary, it would partially serve my purpose.

Seeing that nothing can be done on your side to better integrate Listary and MC, could you consider my workaround? Thanks.

Modify the queue is on my todo list.
Copy Speed is half implemented (you can see references to it in the program, but it is greyed out) But it been pushed down the list since almost nobody uses it and there been more impotent things to complete first.

That's fair enough. I myself have used the copy speed restriction only twice so far. But modifying the queue list is a very useful function to have. Hope you can implement it in the next version.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Forward keys to the filter bar/box
« on: September 05, 2014, 10:51:48 »
Hi,

I am using listary to filter files in other file manageres. But I find that listary and MC don't work together. In other file managers, as soon as I start typing, listary opens, receives the keystrokes and starts to show filtered results dynamically, which is very useful. Is there any chance to make them work together? If anybody is successfully using them together, I would like some pointers on that.

If not possible to make them work together, is it possible to have an option to forward keystroke to the filter bar instead of the commandline bar. Though not as powerful as listary, it would partially serve my purpose.

Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. I was without 'net for the past 2 days. Thankfully restored now.

The question is really what feature do that tool has that you miss from MC..  Maybe it is something that can be added.  who knows..

This is great. Here are some things which I would like to have in MC:
- ability to remove files added to the copier (esp in case of large number of files being transferred or wrong files added to the queue)
- show queued files automatically without clicking show queue everytime.
- control copy/move speed
- ability to control what to do in case of pre-existing files, on-the-fly.

Thanks for the consideration.

MC have no control of anything with standard Cut/Paste, The Cut/paste command are send to windows and everything about that is handled by Windows.
The right drag menu is a different thing. That is not supported.  I suspect that that tool hook it self into the Windows Explorer Shell.. many file manager is built on top of the Explorer Shell. but MC do not do that
That explains right drag-drop handler, but still not  the regular copy-paste. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling supercopier. I will try doing it again. Thanks for your support.

If you do copy Paste  Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V or Select Copy/Paste from context menu. Then windows will handle the copy and MC has no control at all. and if that program is hooked into window it should do what it does.

The problem is, it doesn't do it only in MC. Also in right drag-drop actions other file managers show supercopier options but MC doesn't show it. I have attached the screen grabs showing the right drag-drop context menus in MC and other file manager. Maybe I'm missing some advanced settings in MC? Hopefully someone using both supercopier and MC can enlighten me.

Ahh statusbar.. yes something is panned but not for the app status bar.

Too bad. Can only hope that it can be implemented in future versions.

re: Supercopier;
it registers a dll and makes itself the default copier, so that whenever a copy/paste command is used either with mouse or keyboard it is automatically activated and takes up the copy-paste function.

re: horizontal scrolling;
yes, it scrolls too much skipping the "panels" or columns of files  in between. Now that I have changed the setting in katmouse to move just by 1 line per scroll, the horizontal scroll works normal, but the per line scrolling in firefox is painful.

re: flat folder;
thanks for considering it.

re: folder size;
I meant "to show it in the status bar", not in details column. This feature is found in Q-dir and is very useful when navigating using list view. I have attached an image to further explain my request.

re: <tab> key for navigation;
thanks for the explanation. Will try your alternated method.

re: single tree pane;
thanks for the explanation.

Support and Feedback / Re: Bug in custom icons?

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I was wondering if I have offended someone with my other post for it being ignored.

Support and Feedback / Bug in custom icons?
« on: September 01, 2014, 14:52:07 »
Hi,

Still waiting for some response to my other thread. Meanwhile I found that custom icons setup (configuration > file type setup > icons) considers extensions in caps and small letter as two separate file types (for eg, .PDF and .pdf are considered as separate file types) and icons configured for .pdf doesn't show for .PDF. I am still not sure if it is a bug or if I have missed some settings.

Hi,
Great program, slowly taking over from my other file manager (Q-Dir). I am finding new features everyday. Now for queries;
- I have supercopier as my default copier. All other file managers I have used, allows it. But when I use multicommander, it insists on using its own internal copier. Is there a setting to change this. Also on drag-drop, supercopier menu options never appear in multicommander.
- In list view, when I scroll horizontally, it skips panels in between and tries to go to the last panel and back to the first panel, so that I miss seeing the files in the middle panels. I took me sometime to understand this and gave me many anxious moments thinking that I have accidentally deleted the files in the skipped panels. (OK, seemed to have solved this. The culprit seems to the mouse scroller program "Katmouse", I have set it to scroll 3 lines per wheel scroll. But in other file managers, this never caused problems.)
- Is it possible to implement flat folder view option? Many times I would like to view combined files view in selected folders (2-5). Though I can use the find files options to view files in all the subfolders, I would like to view files only in selected folders.
- Is it possible to show the folder size, and the number of files and folders in it, automatically on selecting it? Now I find that I have to press the <space> key to show it and it shows only the folder size and not the number of files and folders within it.
- Is it possible to use the <tab> key to navigate between the 4 panes (1st tree pane -> 1st file pane -> 2nd tree pane -> 2nd file pane)?
- Is it possible to have single tree pane for both the file panes? This will increase the real estate available for the files view.

Thanks for patiently hearing my whining. Since I am still exploring the gold mine, I might have missed the already existing options. If so sorry for the unnecessary post and kindly point me in the right direction.
