how about after turning on/off showing hidden/system files, the two panels will automatically be refreshed..after clicking 'apply' the result of the action(turning on/off) will automatically be seen in the panels...so there won't be any need to do anything other than turning on and off.

any tips then to make it faster?i'm using windows 7 home premium 64 bit, i5 processor but the first generation, 7200 rpm hard disk..by the way thanks for the info about the way windows do copy..and though in my system i feel MC is slower, i'm still more comfortable using it..

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: Folder accessed-history
« on: November 13, 2012, 08:28:51 »
i think he/she's saying that in FC you left click on the address bar and there will be a display of the places you've visited in that tab..yes, it is tab based..MC displays displays all the visited places in one place regardless of panel or folder tab you used..Free Commander displays history by folder tab..just click the address bar and you'll see the places you've been to for that specific folder tab(FC is my previous file manager and still installed, but my main file manager is MC)

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: <dir> in the extension column
« on: November 13, 2012, 08:09:03 »
yeah..folders don't have extensions and what i'm asking is just an option to put the <dir> in the extension columns instead of putting it in the sizes column, so there's an option to display it in the sizes column and another choice to display it in the ext column, you just choose between the two...talking about overflow, it won't hurt if a folder's name can't overflow to ext column(personally, i don't want them overflowing, just personally though), just like it won't hurt if a file's name can't overflow to ext column because it is occupied..

these will do...thanks!

thanks!i saw this many times but i didn't think that it's modifiable!!not until now!i tried double clicking and it worked!just what i was asking for!!

can you add an option to make it intercepted?i like the file operation offered by MC, it's one of the things that attracted my attention..i'm tired of windows 'just copy' function without any advanced feature..but why is it that MCs copy operation is slower than windows?

but the same thing goes with the file..the ext column is occupied so if a file name is long..there won't be any overflow..there's no difference with folders...

currently, filtering and  quick search works only on files/folders name columns..please add the feature to allow filter and quick search in other columns to..like the dates(last modified and date created)...

Feature Requests and Suggestions / automatic rename on conflict

asking for an option that when enabled, on copying a file to a directory that already contains a file with the same name, the new file will be automatically renamed to filename(2) or filename2, etc..

Feature Requests and Suggestions / color filters by size

this helps in knowing the big and 0 byte files and folders fast..particularly i want to set background colors so that i would easily know those that are more than a specific size or are 0 bytes..then i can identify them even without using calculate folder size..

Support and Feedback / right click context menu 'copy' not intercepted

is it a natural behavior of MC to not intercept the copy operation done through right click->copy then paste?

Support and Feedback / grid lines
« on: November 13, 2012, 03:06:45 »
is there a way to modify the appearance of the grid lines?I didn't find any in the settings(core and explorer panel) but maybe there's another way..i like my current UI configurations and I don't think I'll need the themes I asked about before,MC is beautiful enough for me even without themes..another feature i want to add is the grid lines but they look bit too dark..I want them to look like the grid lines of file managers I used before MC which are less dark and won't snatch my attention from the names and properties of the files and folders..

Feature Requests and Suggestions / <dir> in the extension column
« on: November 13, 2012, 02:22:08 »
i know the common practice is putting <dir> on the sizes column..but maybe it's also acceptable to put it in the extension column, the sizes column is for sizes and the extension column gives you an idea of what type of file is in a specific row..if it's a folder then showing that it's a directory will do the same..I'm only asking for an additional option to do this..not making it the only option..maybe most users still prefer having the <dir> in the sizes column...

Support and Feedback / calculate all sizes of folders in a directory
« on: November 13, 2012, 02:09:27 »
i know this can be done by not putting the focus rectangle on any of the folders in a directory but it's better if there's another menu item or button or the likes of the two that when pressed will show all the sizes of the folders in a directory regardless of the position of the focus rectangle..
if you have selected multiple folders or files in a directory to copy, for example, but then you want to know first the sizes of all of the folders in that directory then you would have to put the focus rectangle to '...'or to any free space, press the 'calculate....'..then you if you want to continue what you want to do..you need to select again those files and folders!..if there's only a button or menu item that will show all of the folders sizes in that specific directory then there'll be no need to repeat the selection process..

Support and Feedback / Re: focus rectangle freezing
« on: November 13, 2012, 01:51:36 »
I think it only happens when the folder I'm opening has a restricted access..if you're using 64 bit OS, try entering 'Perflogs' folder in C(if you have..)..when I enter it the focus rectangle doesn't move(I've found a solution but requires more key presses)..using WE you can enter after confirming that you want to enter by clicking the 'continue' button in the dialog..btw, it seems that it only happens when I'm using 'right arrow' key and not the 'enter' key..there's no use entering these folders but the problem is when i accidentally open them..the focus rectangle gets stucked..well, this is a minor problem and I've found a solution so there's no need to waste time on this...

Support and Feedback / focus rectangle freezing
« on: November 11, 2012, 06:59:57 »
why is it that the focus rectangle freezes when I enter a 0 byte folder..this is not always the case..this only happens when i enter a folder that i think is related to the system...on ordinary folders there's no problem..they just won't be opened..but on others, the focus rectangle stays at the 0 byte folder and won't move even if i press up,down keys..

Support and Feedback / display 0 byte size
« on: November 11, 2012, 06:42:49 »
please add an option to display 0 B in size column for folders with 0 byte size...i have a folder with 3 subfolders and they're all 0 byte(i didn't know since i think they're all created by the system) and when I turned on calculate folder size..nothing was displayed..I thought it was a bug but then I realized that they have 0 byte size..if only 0 was displayed there'll be no confusion..so please..just an option..

Support and Feedback / Re: My Computer
« on: November 10, 2012, 01:33:01 »
still can't get over with My Computer..it's not just for navigation..but also for viewing all the drives with their capacity, free spaces, labels..and a good starting place when opening a file manager..please consider adding it in future version..I've used other file managers before and almost(if not all) all have My Computer..I shifted to MC because of its advanced features(others have just basic file management features), specifically the ones related to file operations and archives, but I'm surprised that there's no My Computer...I think many average user's will miss it since it's the first thing that you'll see when opening WE and it gives you an overview(sizes, free spaces, labels...) of your drives..please, please...
