Support and Feedback / Re: Simple tree and file pane view

Is there then a trick to decrease the 2. panel to 10% and save it between sessions?

Support and Feedback / Simple tree and file pane view

Hejsan Mathias

Why can I not get a nice and simple tree and list view as you have in your online manual? (See the attachment).
I am forced to have a 2. list view that I don't use, because "Split size 0/100 or 100/0" can not be saved between sessions.
What is the trick you use?

Hidden/System files are shown in the tree, is it also hidden in the list panel ?
Yes, yesterday they were not shown in either the tree or the list, today they are shown in both places.   :o
I don't understand. See the screenshots at the end of this reply.

also check C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
That folder is shown as the System32 folder for 32bit application on 64bit OS
As you can see in the previous Windows Explorer screenshot from yesterday, it is 64bit spyware on a 64bit pc.

Some security software can hook it self into Windows to prevent files/folders from being shown for 3rd party application. But normally they are hidden even in the shell as well. (WinExplorer)
I don't use any security software on this pc.

The only thing I have done is to block the spyware from starting. I have now unblocked it again, but it still shows up in MC.
I don't understand why, sorry for the trouble.

My 64 bit Win7 pc is infected with M$ spyware, but I didn't know because Multi Commander don't show the spyware folder (CompatTel) + other folders. What is wrong?

Support and Feedback / Re: Problem with context menu
« on: January 28, 2021, 22:49:31 »
You are probably right, but it is rather strange that only MC has this problem, and none of the other file managers I have tried, english or danish language.
But never mind, I seem to be the only one having this problem.

Support and Feedback / Problem with context menu
« on: January 13, 2021, 18:00:28 »
I use MC more and more, and find some odd things now and then. Here is one of them:
I use "FileMenu tools" from Lopesoft a lot, it is really a useful timesaver.
However, in the tree pane the "FileMenu tools" context text is missing (the space is there) but the 2. submenu is visible.
This is only in the tree view. In the list view the context is ok.
All other context is ok, and this is only a problem in MC, other file managers do not have this problem
This is Win7 32bit with a WinXP explorer like setup with a tree view to the left and (unfortunately) 2 list views to the right.
I have still not found out how to disable one of the list views so it is also disabled after reboot, maybe someone can give me a hint.
I will now try to attach two screenshots, one with context on the tree view and one one the list view.
"FileMenu tools" context should be just below "Scan with MSE".
Don't be confused, this is a danish Win7 with plenty of english-only programs so the context is rather international.
I can't see how to place the screenshots inline so I have attached them...

Edit: I just tried on a Win7 64bit pc, and there it works...

Support and Feedback / Re: Backup far from complete
« on: January 28, 2020, 00:18:30 »
Well, nothing is absolutely necessary to back up, it can all be configured manually afterwards.
I prefer not to set the user interface manually up on new, and now I know what how to prevent it, thank you  8)

Does this mean I should save the .ini file (portable), or the reg entries (installed)?
Is there any advantage of using the installable version?

Support and Feedback / Backup far from complete
« on: January 27, 2020, 16:48:34 »

I have now for the first time used the backup (Core and Explorer settings export/import), because I updated from v9.2 to v9.6.1.
The backups do a very bad job and a lot of settings are not restored, I think mainly from the Explorer settings.
I will name a few: Button window and some toolbars are now on, they were off. Also the number and size of the panes are wrong.
Also the "Quick Look'nFeel setup" comes on every time I start MC. How do kill it? I don't want it, I try to use a backup.
I use the portable 32bit version.
Am I doing something wrong, or does it simply not work as properly?

You should use the MediaInfo.dll
The documentation is rather inadequate and the frontend gui is awful, but for MC only the .dll is needed.
It will extremely fast rip the data even from almost any obscure file extension.

I have look at it. the API is horrible and bloated. Not sure I want to increase the size of MC with 80% just to get some minor data about video files.
There must be something better.

That is exactly what I wrote: Use only the .dll
It is small, fast and very tolerant on buggy file headers, and is of course not bloated.

It is open source och fungerar jätte bra. The documentation is rather inadequate and the frontend gui is awful, but for MC only the .dll is needed.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / possible change to tree pane
« on: October 14, 2019, 00:36:10 »
The + and - signs are very large, dominant and bright in the tree view.
Is it possible to change this? It would also be nice to have dotted lines between them instead of the solid ones, again so they are more discreete.
As you can see, I have replaced the ugly and dominant Win7 folder icons with the nice XP ones.
I have attached two screenshots. #1 is from MC and #2 is from another file manager.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Re: V9.0 IS FINALLY OUT
« on: October 14, 2019, 00:11:59 »
Version v9.0 is now finally out !!!
Next Release will not contain any major feature like that. It will be a fix up release for bugs that are found and minor changes and minor new features.
And will be released a lot faster.

When can we expect to see it?

Support and Feedback / Re: Folder Tree - Folder not shown
« on: September 21, 2019, 12:52:52 »
There is nothing new in this. It has been so as long as I can remember, and is not actually related to MC. Internet explorer and XyPlorer will do the same.
It happens sometimes when applications create new folders (but not always). The file manager does not update the tree until the folder is clicked.
Any other incident that triggers a MC update will also make the folder visible in the tree.

So if you got any requests that you would like to see in the next version. Let me know now! (Even if you asked before)

I would like to have a "files before folders option" in the sorting settings.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Files before folders
« on: July 13, 2019, 13:22:26 »

I would like to have a "files before folders option" in the sorting settings.
I have folder called download which is used for all kinds of new stuff that have not yet been archived in the correct place.
This folder can sometimes contain many files and folders, due to lack of time.
The folder is therefore set to sort by creation date and to seperate files from folders.
The folders are far less used than the files, so it would be convenient to have the files on top (first), to prevent a lot of scrolling.
There is a tread about it here:

Ok, I will try to make a feature request. This is in my opinion a useful feature and maybe it is easy to implement.

20
Nope, then folders and files gets mixed.
Files and folders should be seperated and the files should be first (on top).

21
I have exactly the same question, and I can see there have been no replies to this tread.

I have moved from XYplorer to Multi Commander due to the lack of a XYplorer 64bit version.
I use it as replacement for the WinXP explorer which M$ totally screwed up in later Windows version, so I have a tree pane and a folder/file pane.
I have different sorting in different folders.
My download folder is sorted by date and should show files and folders seperately with files first, but I can only set it to folders first.
Please help.
