Can't open file viewer
« on: April 28, 2014, 12:11:07 »
Hi,
I'm trying to open MC Internal File Viewer, but MC keeps using MsPaint and Windows Gallery (depending on file type). I have removed all custom entries for these files, both in Editor and Launcher tabs, under Configuration, File type setup.
What should I do?
Regards,

I think it is strange that MSPaint is used for viewer
But it might be if you messed up the settings for it in FileType Setup.

keep in mind that you have both View and Edit..  and there are separate setup for both.

By default there are 2 viewer profiles, one for Pictures and one for everything else that is the MultiDataViewer.
So if you want to open pictures with the text viewer you need to remove that extension for that file form the picture viewer profile or remove that profile completely.

if you want to revert everything back to default just delete the file "FileTypes.xml" from config.

(Workaround is to open a text file and then drag and drop the picture into the viewer.. )

Hi,
I tried deleting "Config\FileTypes.xml", it was created again, empty with 49 Bytes and didn't work.
So I removed MC and reinstalled it, no go either!
Next I unnistalled MC, using the Start menu command you provide, manually removed folders Config, Extensions, SessionConfig and everything else MC could locate with Multi in the name, including start menu shortcuts, etc.
Next I did the same search with Windows explorer and cleaned the rest. I have nothing in the recycle bin either.
I downloaded the portable version and unzipped it to a usb pen drive.
It is still using MsPaint. Everything is working from the portable drive and still using MsPaint.
I don't know what else to do!

MC do not start mspaint.exe, so if that is started then MC did not handle the file type and it was handed of to windows and windows did what it is configured to do.

But it is strange..  You must be doing something wrong.. some information about what you are doing are missing...

What exactly are you doing to view the file ?

Just double clicking it. It's working now, from usb drive. Must have been a clean up problem, since I spend the afternoon cleaning the PC, and just finished a reboot. Lots of junk scattered around too many folders, from too many programs.
F3 opens picture viewer and F4 Notepad with a great mess of characters.
I'll post a feature request for an uninstall and clean feature.
Thank for your excellent support.

Well that is the problem.
You are not issuing an command to view the file.  By double clicking on it you are asking to launch/run it and by default that is handed of to Windows to handle, So that is why mspaint is started.

You can override run action in filetype setup in the "Launcher (Run/open)" tab.
But not sure if you can select the internal viewer for that.

It's working! Probably was my mistake from the beginning.
This reminds me of Notepad and Notepad++. I'll figure it out.
Thank you.
