File deselection with shift + arrow key
« on: August 09, 2016, 13:08:48 »
Hi Mathias,

In MultiCommander, as in most other file managers, when I hold down the shift key and move up or down my list of files, they become selected. However, when I move over them again, and holding down the shift key I try to deselect some of them, nothing happens, they remain selected. I either have to keep pressing the space bar for each and every file that I want to deselect, or use the right mouse button. This is a minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless. I'd like to inquire why we can't deselect files the same way we select them (and the same way we can deselect them in almost every other two-pane file manager), and if deselecting with shift + arrow could be implemented in future versions.

Yours truly,
Andras

It kind of depends on what settings you are using,
But the main problem is, because MC is build around the commander styled setup first but also have support for Windows Explorer styled setup and a mix..
And because of that the two way to do things that are colliding a bit with each other. And fixing something in one configuration will break something with the other. So I kind of avoided trying to mess with it to much, because it often create more issues..

So it's not going to be possible to deselect files by moving over them again, holding down the shift key?

I don't know. There are changes planed.. but if that fixes your issue I don't know because it depends on what configuration you have selected and what settings around this you have changed

I haven't really changed selection settings, I think I'm using default "Commander style."

If running with 'pure' commander styled setup, it should work better after the planed changes are added.  (If it is possible to do the changes I want.. but because of how the different settings are depending on each other it might cause to much issue.. But I don't know that yet..)

Configuration / Explorer Panel Settings / Selection Methods / Select and Unselect when navigating over files and folders

check this option
