Problem with some files and folders
« on: June 05, 2017, 16:57:14 »
Hello,

Some files and folders have a blue screen icon (see attached picture) and I can't:
1) see their extension
2) see their date
3) see the date
4) open them

I have made some verifications, they don't have any special attributs and I'm the owner of the files & folders.
One the screenshot attached to this email, you can see 2 PDFs, I can't even open the first one but I can do everything I want with the second.

Is there a reason why I face this problem?

Thanks by advance,
Hervé

I only see 1 PDF (.pdf) and one other item that looks like a folder
the first file do not have a file extension

Is the item with no extension a folder ?
MC ask Windows about the icon for the folder.  And if there are a hidden file in there named desktop.ini, it can it it define a special icon that should be shown for that folder.

Hello

Both are files, both are just archived, both have an extension and both are PDFs.

Bye,

Looks wierd. Donä't know how you manage to get that.. the first file do not show any extension at all.

Archived ? So the files are located inside a archive ?  You have browsed into a zip or something ?

No sorry, when I say Archive, that's the file's attribute.
It is only archived (not read only nor hidden)

Sorry then I don't understand how it can happen
If the two files in the screen shots are normal 'files' and not a file and a folder.  and located on normal disk.
Then something is very strange. It is not possible. there is no logical reason of that.
Something is very very unique and strange on your setup, or some information is missing here.

In windows explorer do the file have a file extension and all that ?

Hello Mathias,

As you say, it's very strange.
No there's nothing special, I can see them "normally" in the Windows Explorer.

But this morning I, may be, found an explanation.
I just gone to this site:
https://resizeappicon.com/

And generated pictures for mobile development.
As a result I downloaded (i received) a zip file from the website.

The problem appeared in MultiCommander just after I unzipped (with 7Zip) the resulting zip file into a folder.

I have attached a screenshot to this post, one with MultiCommander and the other one with Windows 10 explorer.

Bye,
Hervé

I don't understand that. It is not logical. And I never seen anything like that.  MC get the list of file information by asking Windows, and the same with Icons.
So something must change how Windows send file information to MC.. because it is only some files you say and not all.

You are not running some strange security software that blocks 3rd party apps ?

If you have a debug version, or something like this, I can use it.

No, MC do not process the file info it gets from Windows. Whats you see is what MC get from windows.  Thats what makes it so strange

It can be related to the fact that I am using a french translation?

Then it should not work on some items and not on some other and the extension is not translated so it should not be cleared.. and it is not just a visible error since the icon are wrong. so windows also returns the wrong icon to MC. so something is making it so MC do not get the correct info.
Is it only the files from the zip? or other. maybe there are some common things about the files that are not shown wrong. Like all of them are unpacked from zips.. or something like that

I tryed the zip generated from url you wrote.. I have no issue.. works.
