Feature Requests and Suggestions / File List View in Explorer Panel
« Last post by thampton on June 09, 2025, 23:14:48 »
I would like to have the file list view panel in the Explorer Panel to automatically change to display details (name, ext, size, date, etc.) when details view is selected and display only the filename when list is selected. I haven't yet found a way to do that. If this a new feature or something that is already available and I haven't found how to geet to it?

So if Auto Size columns is off then the column sizes are fixed and do not auto resize..  They are locked.
So than I don't understand what you want to toggle.

So if you turn off "AutoFit columns to view width" in Explorer Panel Settings. Then resize the column and select "Save current layout as default"
Then columns will not auto size. and if they do not fit in view you get a scroll bar

Yeah I don't use Auto-Size Columns, I have a custom setup.

So fixed column size ? no matter how you resize the window ?

Yeah basically, I didn't think of how it would look in split-panes until you mentioned it, but I only have one pane open (at all times) & would be nice to lock it to prevent accidental resizing, maybe serialize it so until you toggle it off it stays locked.

Please add functionality to lock sorting columns within the Explorer panel, preventing accidental resizing or reordering. The locking state should be toggleable via right-click context menu on the column headers. This feature aims to preserve the user-defined default column layout, reducing the need for repeated adjustments and enhancing stability during navigation.
P.S.: The sorting order doesn't require locking; only the resize functionality needs to be locked.
P.P.S: I see it's stored in "ColumnSets.xml" —made a backup of it ! False alarm; the data isn't stored at that path.

Support and Feedback / Re: The saved sessions are not visible/accessible

I found a workaround. After MC is launched, I use the "Save As..." button to save the default session with a random new name. It refreshes the whole list. I delete the useless session then choose the right one.

As long as I don't have to restart MC 100 times, I can live with it :)

Not able to reproduce it. But it sounds like a race condition. That it builds the menu before it has finished loading the TabSession data.
That can happend because during startup MC loads lots of things in parallell. And TabSession is loaded a lot sooner than building the menu. But since things are happening in parallell, then maybe on a system with less cores it takes longer for it to load it and it reach building menu too soon.

There should be a check for it so it waits. But sounds like it missing in some situation. I will check.

Sined they are visible in the Manage Session Windows.. They should pop back if you do something that will re-save them. Because then it will trigger a rebuild of the session menu.

Support and Feedback / The saved sessions are not visible/accessible

Hello,

When I start MultiCommander, it very (too) often doesn't display any saved sessions when I click on the "Tab Sessions" button.

If I click on "Manage", I see all my sessions. The TabSessions.xml seems ok in the %APPDATA%/MultiCommander/Config folder.

I have to restart MC a bunch of time to finally get them. But today it doesn't work at all. That drives me nuts  :(

Any tips?
Thx
