Hi,

Is there any option to make the Quick Filter default behavior mode like this:
keyword = *keyword*

That is to avoid the need to add the two asterisks manually and to make MC to presume, that any single keyword in Quick Filter field is only a part of the filename providing that the other is not stated explicitly.
I use quick filter option quite often, but I can't remember a single occasion, when I needed to use another mode, that is to search by the full filename.

Furthermore, it would be nice to add asterisk automatically between multiple keywords too. That is when I enter in Quick Filter field several words separated by spaces, MC should treat them as independent parts of filename:
quick fox brown = *quick*fox*brown* = *quick*brown*fox*

I meant, that, say, in Total Commander it is possible to limit subfolders scanning by level, say, a user can order to show only the content of the subfolders up to the 2.nd level down. Sometimes it is very useful.

That is a feature that can be requested and maybe added some day.

Well, please consider my remark to be a feature request 

I am afraid, that it does hang. My computer (2,0 GHz) and HDD (7 200 rpm) are not as much slow, that the process or reading some average folder with several subfolders and some hundreds or thousands files should long a half of hour, am I right?

Sorry I don't think so. I don't think is is really hung, I think you see that MC become "not responding" but that is because the UI can't update.
But it will release it self when it is done.

OK, could you please estimate how long it might continue at my system (see its parameters above) to scan and show a folder with, say, about 10 000 files divided to approx 200 subfolders of 4-5 levels? Will the answer "several hours" be possible? Well, what about a folder with only 2 subfolders and 14 (yes, fourteen only!!) files, can scanning last more than 10 minutes?

check with process monitor and you see it is working.

I have already checked it before with Process Explorer and stock Task Manager. The current status on MC process was always [Not responding].

No it is not that experimental

But you do state yourself, that it is experimental (please read the appropriate menu entry).

There is no folder limit, Number of folders does not matter.

I meant, that, say, in Total Commander it is possible to set subfolders level limit, that is show only the content of the subfolders up to the 2.nd level down. Sometimes it is very useful.

But MC will 'hang' (no really, but look like it, since the main UI can not refresh until scan is done) until it have scanned the entire subfolder structure,
so if there are lots of files it can takes a while, specially if you have a very very slow drive. But there is no way around that...
However takes a while to scan, because it must scan the filesystem before it can show the content

To avoid misunderstanding I confirm again, that I have tried this feature for many very different folders on different drives and partitions, but the result was the same: for some folders (with fewer files count) it works, but for others it causes MC to hang.

I have no issues showing over a million files there.

Thank you, I knew, that something like this "Flat FileSystem view" should exist in MultiCommander too. I was trying to find it in the main menu, not in the right place on the top of a file panel.
Is there any way to call this drop-down list of panel view modes from the keyboard too, not only by hitting this button with mouse?

P.S.
It seems, that this feature is really very "experimental". For me it works only in some folders with fewer subfolders and files, while it makes Multi Commander to hang every time (I have tried many times) if folders with more than some dozens of subfolders and files
 This way it is not really usable of cotse, something like alpha version. Hope it will actually become to work one day in the future.

Hi, is there any option to enable keyboard accelerators for main menu commands? Currently they are available only in the [Configuration] section of the main menu, while all other commands have not them. It is highly needed for those main menu commands, which are used quite often, but have no a (default) appropriate hotkey/shortcut.

Hi, is there any option to get the list of files in the current folder and all its subfolders (or may be in subfolders of the specific level, or in the currently selected subfolders etc).
AFAIK, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away it had been known as Ghisler's Total Commander the killer-feature under the name "Branch view - http://help.ghisler.ch/totalcmd/branch_view__with_subdirs_.htm". Since then it has been implemented in many other file managers too.  But I could not find anything like that in Multi Commander. Have I missed anything or this functionality is really not (yet) added?

Wondering if scandisk shows any errors to the FAT or bitmap when this happens.  USB connections can sometimes jumble the file tables, but do you have an actual copy - all sizes & CRC the same or is it a 'ghost' tree of files?

Thank you very much, but I'm afraid, that the reply to all your suggestions is "No". I think, that you are searching for an answer in the wrong direction. 

I think it should be the bug of Multi Commander, not of the file system or something like that, because other file managers as Total Commander, Windows Explorer etc do not suffer from this error and shows the same folder content correctly at the same time when Multi Commander does not do it. Or should we suggest, that it is some very special error of the FS , which causes problems  ONLY for Multi Commander and not for most (I have not tested all) of other file managers.

Excuse me, that I forgot to explain this point in my first post.

Added:
Furthermore, as I have already stated in the first message, creating a tab (hotkey Ctrl+T) partly resolve the issue, that is the same folder is shown correctly in a new Explorer tab, but at the same time shows all items in this folder twice in the older tab. So I conclude, that is a bug somewhere in Multi Commander source code or/and in my current settings (but I've made very few changes compared with the default configuration).

Already for many versions of Multi-Commander, including the last one 5.1.1 x32. I suffer the following bug, thus it is not an accidental bug of the specific version. Sometimes all files and folders names in certain root folder of my external USB HDD randomly become duplicated. Furthermore, some (not all) of partitions become duplicated too. At the same time all other partitions and folders is still OK. I suppose, that it may happen after some system event, but I don't know, which one. May be. disconnecting and than re-connecting this HDD? But some my tests do not confirm this hypothesis. And why is duplicated this only folder?

Going to other folder and than back does not help.

The only solution I've found by now is to duplicate the tab (hotkey Ctrl+T) - till the next time. Is there any permanent solution?

OS is Windows XP x32.

When moving a file to another location at the same partition, Multi Commander gives a warning message, that there is enough space on the target volume.
It seems to be quite senseless, as the source volume = target volume, so it can not be not insufficient room for such an operation. Or have I missed anything?

The filter can be set via custom command like MC.Explorer.SetViewFilter FILTER="*.*"

I am a very green novice with Multi Commander, besides I have quite low skill in scripting. Could you please give me a hint of HOW it can be made?

Not sure if there is a possibility to toggle filter on/off, but a workaround  probably can be done via MultiScript.

The same question is here, what is this workaround via MultiScript you hint to?

Toggle is not found (Click on Filter icon) since it is not a command in that way.

That is quite surprising for me. I thought before, that commonly one can assign a keyboard hotkey for any command, which can be run in GUI via a button/icon.

But can be done by script. But you must keep track of previous content to restore it with your self.

I'm not sure, what do you mean. Could you please give a bit more detailed instruction or give a link to the appropriate page in on-line manual?

Hello,

I was not able (although have tried, even read the manual and searched through the forum) to find the keyboard hotkey to move focus to Quick Filter field (yes, this small field below a file panel). It seems, that there is no such hotkey - neither assigned by default nor any option to assign it by a user. However this conclusion is rather incredible.
Have I missed anything?

And another similar question, is there any hotkey to switch the current quick filter on/off. I thought, that it should be Ctrl+G, bu actually this hotkey does something else. I can not understand, what exactly, as it switches between the current filter or... totally empty file panel, but the last state IMHO has no any sense.

6. Click on Focus item under Folder
7. Color Pick Dialog shown. Uncheck "use default background" and select "background color"
8. Pick a color.. then press OK..
9. Press Save or Apply in the settings dialog..
10. Colors changed.

Ow, sorry. Now I see.

Actually it is practically the same thing I asked for from the beginning.
I have just assigned for files and folders dark background and light-color text itself (what is named "inverted cursor" in Total Commander), so the focus (cursor) is clearly visible at the first glance. It is really convenient (see my screenshot below) and I'm very happy!

That radio buttons is in the pick color dialog that pops up.

I'm very sorry, but I can not see neither an option "use default background color" nor a radio button "Background Color" in this Colors tab of Explorer Pane dialog
I suppose, that I might work with the wrong dialog. Could you please describe a bit more exactly, which way should I reach this dialog, which you mean?

Then you need to change the background color for "Focus" item for files/folders.
Check the two checkboxes named "Use file specified background colors" and "use folder specified background colors"
Then customize the colors for "Focus" (do it both for files and folder)

Thank you, I've made these changes.

But than I could not find, how to fulfill the next steps:

and uncheck the "use default background color" and click on the "Background Color" radio button. so that it switches over to background..
and then select wanted background color

It seems, that there is neither the option "use default background color" nor "Background Color" radio button at the [Color] tab of Explorer Pane.


Anyway it seems at this stage, that MC has a similar "Inverter cursor" option, as in Total Commander. Could you please consider adding this functionality? Trust me, it is very, very, very convenient. Please see the attached screenshot from Total Commander settings and file panels.

Hi!

Is there any option to make the cursor in the active pane more clearly visible, as for instance in Total Commander ("inverted cursor" option)? It is quite hard every time to search the cursor in the pane with my eyes after my long time experience with Total Commander.

I've tried to find in MC some similar option, but had no success.

Hi,

The idea to repair this NTFS "feature" to update a folder modification time every time when changes the folder content is fine itself. However it seems, that the latest file modification date does not always suit as the folder time.

Would not you consider alternate approach: let Multi Commander keeps the original date of the folder when it adds, deletes on renames a file or subfolder in this folder. Technically it should mean, that before starting any file operation in a folder, Multi Commander records for itself somewhere the current value of the "modified" attribute and when the operation is finished MC should restore this original value.
