Cannot run MC
« on: April 25, 2014, 17:50:22 »
Windows says there is a problem but does not give anymore information.
I've tried download all the available versions, both the 64 and 32 bit , to no avail.

I'll try a two year old version and up-date the post.

That it is not much information to go on..

MC do not have any external dependencies. Normally it should work on all system from XP.
Very old CPUs that do not even support SSE1/2 might have issues with v4.x version.

So what is different of you machines compared to everybody else ?

I've just tried the 3.5 version installation again... and it went without a hitch!!!

I've just built a new computer using an Asrock Extreme4-M m'bd and an Intel i5-3450 cpu which runs superbly.

I don't know why the previous times were a problem; it got through to asking which control interface I wanted, either Windows or Commander and then said something about unable to complete installation and removed all the files!

Anyway, now I can proceed to use it.

Ehh something is not right..

You say it ask what control interface you want..  and then you say installation fails.. ?
But if you get it to ask about interface then the program is already installed, that is shown at first start of the program.

But if it works now then its good.

Problem again!

I exited MC then put PC into stand-by.

When I woke up the PC  and restarted MC ; it loaded up and then stated that it had stopped working and gave me the same message that it did initially.

This time I've save the files referred to:

" Files that help describe the problem:
   C:\Users\Lance\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2234.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
   C:\Users\Lance\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2E08.tmp.appcompat.txt
   C:\Users\Lance\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2E28.tmp.hdmp "

Every time it stops the reported files are basically the same only differing in the prefix "WERxxxx. "

I've attached the WER2E08 file.

Have you looked in that WER2E08 file ? It just list the file names and what version they are.

I don't know why it does not work for you. The question is what is different with your machine and setup with everybody else.
I can be that it conflicts with somethings else that is running, some security software that acts up, some strange shell extension or some other program that hook it self into other programs.  Some sandboxing application that is not configured correct for MC.

What is different from when it started and when it did not. maybe some other program was not running then.

I've found that the only way to run the later versions of MC is to stop my Internet Security program! But as I am usually connected to the Internet I can't keep that up. So for the present time I've given up trying to use it.
