There is no way to customize folder by folder.
It is planed for something like that.

But you can change sorting with hotkeys
Ctrl+F1 to F5 will change sorting to column 1 to 5, Selecting an column that is already sorting will reverse the sort..

Support and Feedback / Default sorting type per folder?
« Last post by mikmach on Yesterday at 10:15:05 »
Hello,

I'd like to make default sorting type for Downloads as By Date (descending) and for all other folders by Name. Don't see how I could do it.

At least is it possible to make keyboard shortcut to switch between sorting types, eg. F11 first - sort by date (descending), F11 second - sort by name (ascending), F11 third - by date, etc.

Looked into shortcut panel and cannot find a way to assing shortcuts to sorting options. Am I missing something?

Attributes does not matte for admin or not.
Permission can cause issue specially over the network. even if you are admin on your machine you might not be admin on remote machine.
Unless you are connected to a ActiveDirectory

Remote side is a Windows machines ? or a Linux NAS  ?

Usually it's files with system atribute set, like desktop.ini. But MC running as elevated admin, so have to handle it.

Does the files has readonly attribute, or permissions that prevent it from being deleted ?

Support and Feedback / Re: Proper column sizing in List view

My other issue is position-to within a file listing. In Windows Explorer and other file managers, you can click once in the file listing to set the focus, then start typing, and the focus changes to the first file that starts with that letter. And if you press Enter after pressing F or G or CH or whatever, the focused file gets launched. In MC, a little popup appears showing my typed text, but it doesn't change the focus.

Yes it change the focus and you can lunch with return from the search filed that pops up..
But you can also turn off the quick search field.
Explorer Panel settings , Under Keyboard handling.. turn off search field.. and turn off search keys.. Then focus will jump to best match while typing

I Googled this MC issue because I have the same concern. MC is great, and I'm thiiiiis close to making it be my full-time file manager. And I will make a donation when I make that decision.

But there are 2 MC features that bug me. One is the column widths. I think a compromise would be to handle column widths like FreeCommander does them. It lets the columns extend off the screen, and gives a side-to-side slider to view the hidden columns on the right. In FC, I can navigate to any folder, and the size, type and date columns are never cropped, only the name is cropped.
