Hi Matthias, thanks for helping out!

Yes, via FTP - simply because I don't know what I'm doing and the online help I found suggested to do it this way. Not forgetting that it's not a dedicated NAS device. It's simply my TP-Link Archer VR1600v wifi router which just so happens to allow for a usb storage to be plugged into the back. Works via FTP using windows file explorer that way.

Ok, tried your suggestions and success!!   ;D  I already had the SSL/TLS disabled but now also disabled 'passive' mode and I get repeated good connections. I've attached a screenshot of the Quick Connect menu just in case others are having the same issue

Thanks very much!!

How would I use network shares....?  Ah, networking..... never have much luck with it. Just one notch beyond my understanding I think...  :-\

Regards,

Oli

My WiFi router allows for the plugging in of storage via a USB port. A bit like a simple NAS I guess.

I can use a windows file explorer to access the storage via FTPin the address bar -   ftp://192.168.1.1/volume(sda1)/   and I'm in, no password needed.

However, if I try this through MC, then the Quick Connect menu ask for UN and PW. Even when I tick the anonymous option and accept the default credentials (anonymous & youremail@example.com) then I still do not get access.

For some reason it did work once through MC, but I was not able to repeat it.

How can I access my simple NAS through MC, what am I doing wrong?

Hi Mathias,

Sorry about the mega-slow reply. Christmas holidays and all that....

My computer is certainly not a rocket-ship (i5, 2.8Ghz, 4 physical cores) and yes, there are usually quite a few other programs open. I have no idea if those are doing updates to the filesystem, sorry.

Refreshing fixes it as you said.

Sorry, I'm not being much help...

Hi,

When I change folders, and particularly when I go up one level using the 'Go Up' button, then the items in the target folder appear twice until I hit the refresh button. Is this a known issue? Is there anything I can do to fix this? My install has been like that for a long time now (6 months +) and I honestly couldn't say when it started. It's not a big issue.

Thanks for your help.

Oli

Righto, that makes good sense. Thanks Mathias

Very cool! Thanks for that hint.

I was poking around for config files and found two places, which is a bit confusing to me:

One is what I found when I typed in :goconfig & :gouserdata. That takes me to:
C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\MultiCommander\Config\
and
C:\Users\Oessebier\AppData\Roaming\MultiCommander\UserData\

The other I found in
C:\Users\Oessebier\AppData\Local\MultiCommander (X64)\Config\

Is that normal or have I got something weird going on? Should I get rid of the one in 'AppData\Local'?

+ 1

I get the same behaviour tommynator is describing with the Windows Explorer Compatibility look and feel

Is there a way to now set up custom/shortcut buttons for tab sessions

Found it!

In case someone wants to know how:

Setting up:
Create a tab session and Save As (eg. Image Folders)
Configuration > User Defined Commands > New
Now give it a name and description (eg. "Tab Session - Image Folders")
Command Type = Internal Commands
Module = Multicommander (Base)
Command = Session #2: Image Folders (your tab session has an entry in the list and most likely found down the bottom of the list)
Save

Now to make the button:
Have the Quick Launch Bar visible (View > Toolbars > Quick Launch Bar)
Right click in Quick Launch Bar > Insert User Defined Command > Choose the command you created earlier from the list (eg. "Tab Session - Image Folders") > OK

Bazinga! How good is that!!

Mathias - you are brilliant.

Just a quick but massive thanks for the new Tab Sessions feature. What an absolute ripper! (Aussie for really, really good)
This new tools is going to save me so much time.

Thanks so much for dedication and hard work on this project Mathias.

Question and possible feature request:
Is there a way to now set up custom/shortcut buttons for tab sessions, so that rather than going through File>Tab Sessions> choose a session, I could click on the session button in my toolbar and - bazinga - session opens up?

Sorry - I feel like an idiot - I can't find the settings button that allows me to NOT show the folder tree by default when I create a new tab.

Thanks for your help.

Feature Requests and Suggestions / Sorting folders
« on: April 23, 2017, 11:35:38 »
Thanks again for all your excellent work on this project - keep up the awesomeness! I use it daily and would be a bit lost without it now  :)

Just thinking it would be great if MC would remember how I want particular, commonly used folders sorted (perhaps it already does this?). Some folders I need sorted by date, some by size, others alphabetically. But is a nuisance to have to adjust this back and forth for each different folder. If MC remembered how I want it sorted, that would be wonderful.

Thanks so much,

Oli

Sounds good, I'll give it a go, although the issue seems to have settle down.

LOL, I love it.... yea, no mystery cat unfortunately.

However, I did play around with locking some tabs, then unlocked them again. There is a default locked tab to C:\, but I think that's there without my doing.

I've rebooted my 'puter a few times since I first observed the behaviour (which lasted a few days) and now it seems to have settled down (the dogs chased the cats away).
Perhaps I jumped the gun a bit to ask about this issue. It coincided with the updates so I thought it was worth mentioning.

Hey, thanks again Mathias for replying and for your hard work on this project. I'm loving it and would be worse off without it. You've managed to make many people's worlds a better place. Nice one!

Support and Feedback / Random tabs opening up? build 2232
« on: August 06, 2016, 04:00:06 »
I've noticed over the last few days that if I have MC open in the background, then sometimes when I come back to it there are a whole bunch of tabs that have opened up - all pointing to C:\. To the best of my knowledge I have done nothing to open them up.

Is there a setting that I may have accidentally changed?

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks for your help,

Oli

Hi, just wondering if I could have some of others' wisdom on this issue please.

Support and Feedback / symbols in folder names
« on: June 16, 2016, 03:47:15 »
Hi,

I've created a Quick Launch button that links to a folder like this:

 C:\blabla\yadda\something\ITD Admin & Archive\

This works just fine, but after closing and opening MC the name/link gets cut off to:

C:\blabla\yadda\something\ITD Admin

The "& Archive" gets chopped off.

I'm sure the & is causing the prob - why is this so and, other than renaming that folder, is there a workaround?

Thanks a lot,

Oli

Great - that sheds a bit of light re. the integration (or rather non-integration) of MC into Windows.

No It is my private project I work on at home when I find the time. Finding the time is the hardest bit.
Yes, It have turned into quite a massive task. And there are so many parts in MC that depend on each other. So doing changes are sometimes not easy.

Well, thanks very much for letting others benefit from your hard work - for free. Very generous. I hope that the project lives on when, one day, your circumstances change and you just don't have time or enthusiasm anymore.

Thanks for the insight Mathias.

That because Paste and SHELL context menu is using Windows to copy and not MC.
And phone are not a normal filesystem, And since MC is not built on top off the MC is not built on top of Windows Explorer Shell (like many other FMs are ),
It is accessed via the virtual filesystem WPD (Windows Portable Device) and Windows don't know about WPD: is.

You need to start the copy that is using MC to copy.
eg. "Copy" File menu , Or Toolbar, Or Copy button on button panel, Or F2/F5 hotkey (depending on setup) or drag and drop

Very cool - that worked. Thanks so much, I'm loving it!

Just a couple of questions to you Mathias (for my self-education) which are not really related to this post. I'd understand if you don't want to answer:

What is the advantage of having this FM separate to the Windows Explorer Shell?

A little personal: How do you find time to run a project like this for free (for which I am extremely thankful)? Is it a hobby? Is it part of another project that you do at work? I just imagine that developing and maintaining a program like this would be a massive task.

Thanks again,

Oli

« on: April 24, 2016, 05:13:01 »
I connected (cable) my mobile phone (Galaxy S4) to put some files onto the SD card. Although MC recognized the phone and allowed me to open up and view the SD card in it, I was unable to copy and paste files from my computer to the phone. There were no right click options to 'paste' and neither did Ctrl V work.
I tried the same using other file management program and had no problems.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your help,

Oli

You can get it to open a new tab on from a locked tab that is showing FAV:
There is a settings in Explorer Panel under the "Tab" section
[.] Open new tab when going to new location if tab is locked

Yes! That works like a charm. Just what I need.

Quote
Also it is possible to create a script for it that take the focus item (from FAV) and then go to that in the other tab..

Well, I guess I don't need that, now that the other thing works. Good to know though.

Mathias, you're a magic man! Thanks very much for your prompt replies and great project.

Kind regards,

Oli
